VocoPro SILENTPA-TOUR10 overview

  • 1Description

The portable VocoPro SilentPA-Tour10 is a ten-user, multi-channel wireless listening system, that enables a speaker to be heard loud and clear without having to raise his/her voice and disturbing others, in places with elevated background noise or strict noise restrictions. The system comes with one lavalier mic that connects to the clip-on bodypack transmitter and ten bodypack receivers. It is ideal for museums tours, houses-of-worship for broadcasting in multiple languages, or any application where the speaker needs to move freely.

The SilentPA-Tour10 operates in the 900 MHz frequency band and features 16 user-selectable channels. This allows up to 16 transmitters to broadcast, each on a unique frequency and to an unlimited number of receivers, enabling listeners to tune into the program they wish to hear.

The transmitter is equipped with a 1/8" aux input for simultaneous music and voice transmission. The receiver's two dedicated audio outputs let you monitor the program with headphones, and at the same time record it on a separate recording device. Both receiver and transmitter units are powered via two AA batteries. Additional power options include rechargeable batteries used with a USB power cable (both available separately).

    VocoPro SILENTPA-TOUR10 reviews

SilentPA-Tour10 - Portable 16-Channel Wireless Listening System (Bodypack Transmitter, 10 Users) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great budget solution for personal monitoring I've owned this kit about two weeks and used it twice already. I was nervous because there weren't many other reviews, but now I am very glad I chose VocoPro. I work with the A/V team in a spiritual center where most of the lectures are given in Portuguese. We wanted a solution to offer translation to our English-speaking guests (which I am one). I purchased this kit along with 10 SonyMDR-ZX11 headphones and enough of the regular Panasonic Eneloop batteries for each of the 11 included bodypacks. VocoPro included an impressive amount of accessories. Each of the ten receiver units comes in a very well-padded box, and each has a 3.5mm stereo male to male wire, a 3.5mm stereo female to 1/4" stereo male adapter, and a USB to Micro-USB adapter for charging. I may never need all those extra cables, but it's so nice that they included them, especially at this price point. Before we put it to use, we tested it. I stood up in the furthest corner of our lecture hall listening on a receiver while someone spoke into the transmitter and walked as far as she could possibly go into a closet on the other side of the building, I am estimating about 40 - 50 meters away, through several walls, a kitchen, the A/V room and all that equipment in between, and the signal was CRYSTAL CLEAR. A couple other people were with me listening on separate receivers and they were amazed. The microphone capsule is on the large side for a lavalier, and with the included wind-screen it's a little silly looking. This is fine for us because we are using it off-camera, but if you were planning to use the microphone in-frame for any reason, you might want to look into using something smaller that will plug into the 3-pin mini-XLR connector on the transmitter. After using it during one of our lectures, we learned a couple things. The translator was doing great until she started playing with her phone, holding the transmitter in one hand and her phone in the other about 3" apart, and I started hearing interference. I was up front operating a camera so I had to walk away for a minute to let her know not to hold the two devices so close together. Also, one person got tired of translating and switched with another person, and the guy was holding the lavalier mic about 6" in front of his mouth, and suddenly I was hearing terrible plosives every time he said a "P" or "S". And perhaps it's partially my fault because I removed the windscreen from the mic because we are using it indoors. When clipped to the lapel, though, the mic works very well . Even in a fairly noisy room the sound was very very good, capturing the speakers voice without any of the noise from the equipment. I cannot say the maximum battery life of the white Eneloop's, but last night the lecture ran for 2+ hours and we had no problems. One potential problem I noticed is that once the batteries are installed, the battery cover is very difficult to remove. Each unit does come with a 5V "Android-style" micro-USB charger plug on the side so you may never need to remove the battery cover. I am looking into getting some kind of USB charging hub for all the units. Each unit does have a 3.5mm Aux input. I imagine it might be a nice function to be able to plug in a second sound source, to perhaps mix in some music as the speaker is transmitting, or for bands who do silent rehearsal to have a main mix but then each player could add an Aux from their instrument, but I haven't had the opportunity to test this feature yet. There is no wet/dry mix control so whatever extra sound source would need to be independently adjusted. Other applications I've come up with: I plugged a receiver into my camera on channel 2, with a Rode NTG4+ on channel 1, so I can record synced audio from the translator, in case I ever need to publish a recording in two languages, it's nice that I have the ability do that now. I also record 5-6 person panel discussions twice a month and I'm planning to get some single ear-buds for the participants so they can monitor themselves. They have a tendency to make a lot of extraneous noise during the recordings, fidgeting, tapping on the table, etc so I think they will help train them to stop that. I also think this kit would be great for a semi-pro audio recordist in the situation where a client asks for a wireless monitor. Rather than spend the money for the industry standard Comtek system, one of the VocoPro systems should work very nicely in the field for a fraction of the price. Overall, GREAT BUY. The price was right. Great functionality. It does exactly what it's designed to do. I purchased it with other peoples' money and now that they've heard it they think I'm a GENIUS. No complaints here.
