Arista Ultra 400 Reviews

It's got that look

Fairly low contrast when using D-76, this film goes back in time. On average scenes, I need to use grade 3 filtration or higher to get a print with OK contrast, but grade 2 gives the print that look from the 70's. The film base is thinner than something like Ilford, so may have a tendency to curl after drying, but it spools onto metal developing spools easier than Ilford, which tends to kink and bend when loading onto a metal spool.

Good Budget Film

While the film doesn't make it to 400, and it's grainier than the more modern emulsions from Kodak or Ilford, Arista EDU 400 is still capable of giving nice results. I've processed the film in 1:50 Rodinal, 1:63 HC110 and 1:7 T-Max Developer, rating it at EI 200-250.

Too thin and curly

The film stock is so thin I can barely load it into the developing tank. It just slips out of the slots on the reel. It also dries curlier than any other film I've developed before, and refuses to uncurl.

An Inexpensive Go To

I started shooting Arista EDU Ultra 400 in 35mm and didn't really like it when I started out shooting film again; but after working through some issues and generally gaining experience with it, I'm at the point where Arista EDU is my go to film for B&W. The results are really good and the price is excellent value for money.

question

can clayton f76 film developer work with this film?
Asked by: mark y.
The manufacturer says f76 is for all black and white films, so I don't see why not. Personally, I use Caffenol.
