Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 overview

  • 1Description

Marked with the distinctive red line normally found on Canon's professional lenses, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 17" Professional Photographic Inkjet Printer is designed to offer users large-format print sizes with exceptional image quality. This printer leverages the outstanding FINE (Full-Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology with a 50% larger print head than previous offerings and the 11-color LUCIA PRO pigment-based ink set and Chroma Optimizer to create prints with fine detail and a wide, accurate color gamut. The PRO-1000 also offers the largest print size in the imagePROGRAF line, up to 17" wide, and can print borderless at up to 17 x 22" as well as work with thick 27.6 mil fine art media.

Equipped with the L-COA PRO Image Processing Engine, the PRO-1000 can quickly and accurately determine printing paths and patterns in order to work as quickly and efficiently as possible. This enables bordered 17 x 22" photos to be created in just 4 minutes 10 seconds while a two-way vacuum feeder keeps media flat and quickly, accurately feeds the media. Also, to expand on the capabilities of the LUCIA PRO ink set, it offers four monochrome inks that reduce bronzing, increase black density, and expand dynamic range in the shadows for excellent grayscale prints. Additionally, the Chroma Optimizer cartridge improves color consistency on coated papers and reduces the difference in ink droplet height to ensure a smooth ink layer and less metamerism.

A 3.0" color LCD is available on the front of the unit for easily viewing settings and making adjustments. Also, connectivity is a highlight of this model with USB 2.0, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi options available. Wireless printing furthers the printer's overall capabilities by adding compatibility with Canon's PRINT App and PIXMA Cloud Link. The mobile app is available for iOS and Android devices and allows users to quickly transfer images and files for print as well as monitor the printer's settings. PIXMA Cloud Link provides access to Google Cloud Print for printing documents directly from cloud-based servers.

Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 reviews

imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 17" Professional Photographic Inkjet Printer is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Awesome Print Quality, But Has Some Issues So far printing quality on the standard Canon Pro Luster has been excellent - better than my defunct Epson 4900 after running through portraits, black and whites, landscapes, etc. Loving the replaceable print head! Minor Cons - Slow between sheets (timed about 2 minutes between prints - to be fair, this may be an issue with the computer). No roll capability. Real Con - Every so often while printing borderless, the print head starts hitting the back edge of the paper and smearing ink on the surface. I'm a little worried about printing on my expensive C-size stock until I figure out what's going on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More user-friendly than my old Epson 3880 I bought this to replace an Epson 3880 that died suddenly. I'm very happy with the print quality and more happy with how user-friendly this printer seems to be. In the past I often fought with sheets not wanting to feed correctly into the 3880 & I've had zero issues so far with this printer. Also I'm liking the Canon Print Studio Pro software which effortlessly gives me even borders and even appears to prevent me printing landscape when I've loaded paper in portrait. I'm quite happy with the results. Now I only need to get the fulfillment center to recognize that I met all the requirements for my rebate. They seem to exist to try to prevent granting rebates...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple setup and beautiful prints Picked up this printer to cut out the middle man a bit with regards to standard prints up to 16x24. Printer was pretty much plug and play for me. I love watching my work come out of the printer with every print job. My initial month of using it I've made a little over 90 prints. 95% of those are on LTR size paper and the remaining 5% have been on A3+ and 17x25 sized paper. That's consumed most of the initial ink load for colors black, grey and the chroma optimizer. The rest of the inks have barely moved. So I'm not as scared of the overall cost of ink replacement. In general my cost per print is well cheaper than sending it to my lab of choice, which makes me happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic prints The instruction manuals (both paper and online) are not helpful in how to set up custom media profiles. Many of the settings are glossed over and aren't explained well enough. At the time of purchase and setup, there were no existing forums to find any information. Canon doesn't explain any general guidelines on what each settings do. I'm also having problems with printing while wirelessly connected via router or directly with the printer when using PrintStudioPro via Lightroom. I've followed the directions during setup but the troubleshooting instructions lead you nowhere... Once the settings were figured out and work-arounds made, the results of this printer are simply stunning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power at your finger tips I wouldn't have thought making large prints at home would improve my photography but it has. Printing larger prints you really have to pay attention to noise, contrast, subtle color hues, and dithering. I think paying attention to these details helps for every aspect of producing an image. Printer, ink, and paper is pricey but if learning and broadening your own creativity is priceless to you this is a great tool. As an aside note I ordered this during a rebate promotion and was very pleased with how quick the rebate came.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer. Well worth the money I've been very pleased with this printer. The image quality is consistently outstanding. Great colors, deep blacks, and good results on a wide variety of papers. The ink is expensive but lasts a long time, so really it's not that expensive given the number of prints you can do on a cartridge. The only challenges with it is that it is big so you need to allocate a lot of space and initial setup is kind of involved. But overall, it is very good, and in terms image quality is probably the best inkjet printer on the market.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful results. The printer is simply fantastic. As an upgrade to an ageing Pro 9000 II, I took the plunge into this hefty unit, and I could not be more happy that I did. Every single comparison print I've done has proved that the investment was worth it--the improvements (especially in B&W) are substantial. I was also surprised to see more vivid colors, especially reds (which were a true match to my calibrated screen). I will put one note here, since I did not see it elsewhere. The printer appears no less susceptible to head-strikes on curled paper because of the vacuum hold down. The system works great, but a minor curl in an 8.5x11 sheet of semi-gloss resulted in smudges and a few strikes on the corners. I will be more careful in the future!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed ! I've been printing black and white since 1969, owned a studio for about 20 years so I have enough experience to offer an opinion. The 1000 is the first ink jet photo printer I've purchased and I can't think of any thing to change. Does it use ink? Yep, sure does. Is it costly to buy? Yep, sure is. Does it cost money to use? Of course. Does it feed roll paper? Nope, who cares. Does it take 10 minutes to print a B&W 17x22? Yep, again who cares. Used to take me days. Does it produce outstanding color and black and white prints? Absolutely. I am very pleased.
