Kirk LS-2 overview

  • 1Description

The Kirk LS-2 Lens Support is a quick release lens support designed to be used with the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR or Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lenses. When using the LS-2 on the Nikon lens, it must be paired with the NC-200-500 lens collar. When using it with the Sony lens it must be paired with the SRC-70-200-4 lens collar.

The LS-2 stabilizes the lens and reduces shifting when you loosen the lens collar to rotate the camera. It is machined from 6061 TG aluminum and has stainless steel bearings and bolts.

    Kirk LS-2 reviews

    LS-2 Lens Support for Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR & Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have for Best IQ Putting the foot camp so close to the camera body leaves the whole rig very prone to vibration when using a tripod or monopod. In this respect the Kirk replacement foot is no better than the Nikon original. Used with the Kirk foot this gadget provides much needed stability when using a tripod. Of course you have to buy the Kirk foot as well making the whole package which ain't cheap. The lens stabilizer from Really Right Stuff is a bit more rigid but far more expensive and more than twice the weight making it less practical for field use. I would never be wityhout the Kirk when Im after max IQ and not willing to carry my 500mm f4.0.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lens Support sort of a good idea The support works fine but only if your tripod is in landscape mode, meaning that the mount is horizontal. If you use a Gimbal head that is a portrait mount (vertical) the support will rest on the side of the lens not underneath it. This is a bit of a hindrance pressing on the side of the lens. Otherwise, it connects fine to the 200-500 lens collar and can be easily adjusted for proper underneath support of the lens when rotating the camera inside the collar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great supplement to Kirk lens collar This ingenious device makes a great addition to the Kirk lens collar, and is easy to adjust to contact at the end of the lens's zoom ring. Small rollers allow easy turning of the zoom ring with this in place, and you can even add a little drag if you think your zoom turns too easily. Adds noticeable support for the length of the 200-500 zoom in landscape or portrait mode if you're just turning the camera within the lens collar. Gimbal users YMMV.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can't give 5 star Friends, It provides Nikon 200-500 mm lens support, just at the area, where the lens starts zooming out. But I am not happy with the craftsmanship of this product... It has two tiny rubberised roller, which supports the lens and help for smooth zooming... But the tiny rollers does not touch the lens barrel in usual condition... You need to push little bit and fix the knob for both the tiny rollers to touch the lens barrel... Hoe it will not damage the internal assembly of the lens! ... The quality of rubber of the rollers also seems like cheap quality.... The bottom line is... It's not worth for US$ 90 .... yes, it's true that it supports the lens at 500 mm zoomed out position... But not essential to have it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well-made support, a Kirk perk! Kirk makes great camera accessories and the Kirk LS-2 does provide that additional support for my Nikon 200-500 f5.6E lens in conjunction with the Kirk lens collar made for this lens. Much better than Nikon's lens collar that is sold with this lens.
