The Hexcon DMX Controller has made an unbelievable difference in my lighting rig. Incredibly easy to set up, understand, and use. Many features from the Mega Flat Hex Pak series now accessible. Much more flexible versus the IR Remote. Makes running a show enjoyable and FUN! Highly recommend adding this piece to your system. Well worth the small investment.

Could be sufficient

The unit appears to do what it is supposed to do. If you have some of the newer multi-colored LED lights, this works decent to have quick colors at your finger tips. However, there are a few issues with this board. First and foremost to think about. There are many manufactures currently making RGBAW+UV lights out there including ADJ (American DJ). Where the rub comes in is the order of LED wiring. This board assumes you are going to use HEX series LED lights. the HEX series is an ADJ specific brand/model. The order of LED's controlled are in a specific order. For ADJ, they are RGBWA+UV (Paying attention to the Amber/White order). Most other manufacturers have the White (W) and Amber (A) swapped, as in RGBAW+UV. So the channels that control those two colors are swapped. I discovered this early on when the color mixing was not quite right on using the presets. Further, when you go to manual mode and push the White slider, it brought up the Amber (and visa-versa). Since there are many manufacturers that use the latter setup, I docked the product 1 star. Now, as for using the unit (discounting the known limitation), the unit works as described. I found the sliders smooth, and the color buttons a nice quick feature. Because this is only using/allowing 6 channels, you will loose some functionality (which may or may not be important to your particular setup). Normally on 6 channels (of the up to 11 it would offer) you loose sound and strobe. Now, the board offsets that by doing that through the board itself. The results were as follows: Sound - The internal mic worked ok if you had sound close, but not too well and there is not a MIC input to funnel sound into the board. Strobe - Dismal to say the least. The strobe is VERY slow, regardless of pushing the speed of the strobe to the max. The on-board controller in the LED is much more sufficient. Color Mixing - The board was not very intuitive. I actually had to read the directions (eek!). If so, I found it hard to remember the combinations I would want to do. If I had a preset color selected, and wanted to dim or raise the color, I had to remember to first slide the slider to MAX, then select the color, then slide to the desired level. All in all it is a great idea, just needs a bit more though in the design. It will get you by in a pinch, just don't get too frustrated if you want to go beyond fixed colors and have better control. Yes I would recommend to a friend, with the above caveats. For those wondering the venue, I was attempting to use these as a House-light controller in a church (House of Worship) children's ministry setting. Wanted something that a basic volunteer could jump on to control without having to have light-board lessons.
