ZEISS 522053-0000-000 overview

  • 1Description

Featuring achromatic lenses with the renowned T* multi-coating for maximum light transmission, the ZEISS Mono 10x25 T* Monocular delivers a bright, high-contrast image. Its 10x magnification is the most powerful of the Mono series of monoculars; ZEISS calls the 10x25 a "miniature telescope" for its ability to display far-off details with such clarity. The close focus distance is less than 15 feet, eye relief is a comfortable 15mm, and the apparent angle of view is a respectable 51°.

The Mono 10x25 is especially suited to birding, nature observation, and travel. Its compact form factor – just 4.3 inches long and weighing only 3.1 ounces, with a leather pouch and a carrying strap – make it easy to have on hand. You'll want to take good care of such a nice optic, but you won't have to baby it: the housing is made of durable aluminum, it's splash resistant, and its operating temperature range is -4° to 104°.

    Mono 10x25 T* Monocular is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from One star off for poor cosmetics. Four stars for performance! Overlooking its rather drab and plasticky looks the Zeiss 10x25 T* is a stellar performer. With the eyepiece' cup turned down I have an edge to edge field of view with my eyeglasses on. Images seem to leap out in natural colors and are clear up to about 98 percent towards the edges, which do not affect my enjoyment as my eye is only able to take in up to around 75 percent of the field of view anyway. The resolution is sharp and my 72 year old hands are able to hold this lightweight monocular steady enough for enjoyable viewing even with its 10x magnification. Its light weight coupled with a supplied light carrying case and neckstrap allow for comfortable all day carry with quick access when needed. Superior optics, light weight and higher magnification that allows me to read distant sign boards makes this my go to monocular over my more expensive but lower magnification (8x) Leica Monovid, which is optically just as good but is heavier and needs the additional purchase of a ridiculously priced ($39.95) neck strap. The Zeiss 10x25 T* gives me more value for money, in my estimate. I would buy this again if I ever needed another monocular and I would most definitely recommend this to my friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Monocular Great product. Easy to carry. Will use for expedition travel as well as to have handy for city travel. Worth the money. More convenient than binoculars.I can find no problems with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My All-around and Handiest Top Line Optic Instrument This fine optical instrument is among the finest monoculars among my collection. It is my go-to optic tool when I need to travel light or when going on a walk either in an urban or nature setting. While it rates five stars for optical performance, price, handiness, carry comfort and ease of use, I took off one star for its cosmetic features: it seems to be made of a plastic material and looks it. It even feels flimsy yet after heavy handling even the frail looking pen-type clip stands up to fairly heavy handling. It is easy to focus, initially needing both hands but with practice can be easily managed with one hand. The field of view is well suited to the magnification and with the eyepiece' rubber cup turned down I am able to easily see edge to edge without straining. The resolution combined with 10 x magnification makes objects viewed seem to jump out in natural.colors. Although not intended for night viewing I have no difficulty in using this monocular effectively for general observation at dawn and dusk and for viweing night lights and distant lighted billboards. In airport terminals I am able to easily read flight status boards and distant signages that save me from a lot of walking. Due to its really light weight and compact size it is easy to hold and focus with one hand (after some practice) for steady viewing, without feeling that it might slip from my hand. I prefer this over my Leica Monovid for its comparative lightness, ability to be focused with one hand unlike the Leica that requires two hands due to the location of the focusing ring, its 10 x magnification that allows me to read signs where the Leica's 8 x is not sufficient, and its significantly lower price (with no difference in optical performance) that makes me feel more confident in handling it because if I should accidentally drop it I would not suffer as much of a financial loss as I would with the more expensive Leica. Edge to edge clarity Is almost 98% of field of view, which is outstanding.
