Dell UP2516D overview

  • 1Description

Covering 100% of the Adobe RGB, 100% of the sRGB, 100% of the REC 709, and 98% of the DCI-P3 color spaces, the UP2516D 25" 16:9 IPS Monitor from Dell gives you the color accuracy you need to ensure your photos and videos are true to life. In addition to enhanced color accuracy, this Dell Ultra-Sharp monitor comes factory calibrated to Delta-E < 2 so you do not have to calibrate the display when it arrives.

With a 2560 x 1440 resolution the UP2516D provides a crisp clear picture, and with support for up to 1.07 billion colors you have an expanded color palette to choose from. Along with enhanced resolution, this ultra-sharp monitor supports a 6 ms response time for reduced ghosting when viewing video, and 1,000:1 contrast ratio for deeper dark and brighter bright colors resulting in a more dynamic picture.

Configuration is simple with a variety of connectors including DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB port. This Dell monitor can even support content from two PCs simultaneously thanks to the dual USB 3.0 upstream ports and embedded KVM switch. Once configured, this IPS (In-Plane Switching) display can be viewed from nearly any angle with support for 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles.

Professional Grade Color

Wide Color Coverage
This Dell UltraSharp Monitor comes equipped with PremierColor offering 100% Adobe RGB and 100% sRGB color coverage as well as two new color spaces: 100% REC 709 and 98% DCI-P3, which are ideal for video editors during post-production work and animation designers who deal with color-critical projects.
Precise, Accurate Colors
This monitor comes factory-color calibrated with a deltaE of less than 2, making any color differences between the desired color and onscreen color indistinguishable to the human eye.
User-Enabled Adjustments
Dell's software development kit, or SDK, enables customers with a proprietary color solution to customize Dell UltraSharp Monitors with their preferred specifications. You can also fine-tune color parameters, including RGBCMY saturation, RGBCMY hue, RGB, and RGB offset.
Extensive Color Gamut
Take advantage of a high level of detail - even in dark areas - with a color depth of 1.07 billion colors, that's approximately 64 times more colors than standard monitors.

    Dell UP2516D reviews

    UP2516D 25" 16:9 IPS Monitor is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great monitor for photo editing You have read the specs so no need to go over them again. This is a great monitor for photo editing. The colors are bright and crisp. I have seen some subtleties that I missed before. The size is big but not too big. I am obsessed with quality. Just be aware that at this resolution text will appear smaller that usual. I have a key on my keyboard that enlarges text in brower pages but it does not affect the panels in Lightroom. If you have vision challenges you may find yourself sitting closer to read. Setup was a non-issue. I use it with Windows 10, Lightroom and On1 Photo 10. I would buy this monitor again. It is a Dell, but it is my understanding that the UltraSharps are great monitors. I agree, this is my second one. The old one is 22.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The monitor for photograhers This wide gamut monitor is THE monitor to buy for photographers. On the price/performance scale, I believe this is the best on the market. People who wear progressively ground lenses in their eyeglasses (me) will like the 25 inch size. Others may opt for the slightly larger 27 inch model. I'm driving this with Windows 10 and and NVIDIA GE Force 960-based video card. I have thus far not installed any of the Dell software that came with the monitor and have thus far not missed it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Dell Monitor I ever used! This is by far the best Dell Monitor I ever used. I had 2 Ultrasharp U2711 and they served me very well int the past. UP2516D is improving not only by image quality but also ergonomics and aesthetics as well. Just put your overglorified Apple Cinema Displays into the trash and grab these ones! In that price point it is the most cost effective and performance solution you can get from a professional monitor!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I haven't owned that many monitors, but very happy. Going to be using this as a GUI display for color correction. Nice that I can have a decently calibrated GUI monitor, and would probably work well for anyone doing low budget color work. Things I don't like: Not ACTUALLY 10 bit, only 8 with a dither. Uniformity isn't perfect, corners have some bleed and white point shift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it Everything about this monitor is fantastic. The contrast and color is great, the angle of viewing is splendid. The cost is great. I love the height adjustment a lot. The two USB.3 connections on the side are the real deal, Almost as fast as my hard-drive upload speed. I have yet to calibrate my Epson v850 scanner and the screen together. I use the monitor for scanned film editing, as well as CAD drafting and Photoshop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well on Mac This monitor looks great. Connected quickly to my 2013 Macpro via the supplied display port cable. Monitor looked good out of the box but after a quick calibration with with an i1 display Pro it was perfect. I am using this for video editing and color correction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Monitor, Calibrated True Color I needed a new monitor to replace an ageing 8 year old LG227WTG 22 TN panel display. What a difference a calibrated display makes. I proof photos on a Canon Pro 9000 MarkII. It was always difficult with the old display because the colors always appeared much darker and cooler on the screen than in my prints. A few test prints without any tweaking of the display, I was virtually printing what I saw in the screen. This saves me a great deal of time not having to guess about color adjustment, brightness and contrast. I was also thinking of replacing my printer after the display, but not now. The added screen size is a plus when working on multiple images in Photoshop. This display does not support the DVI interface which forced me to replace my old DVI KVM switch with a newer 4K Display port KVM. The monitor works flawlessly between both of my computers. Some people complain about the touch buttons on the bottom right of the monitor being difficult to see and use. The only button I use is the on/off switch. Dell provides a small program to control most of the settings/features of this monitor. I found the software much easier than playing with the touch buttons. Tilt, height, and swivel adjustments are very easy to make, and once positioned the monitor stays in place. To sum it up, I had to do virtually nothing to get this display calibrated to my printer. Photos are vibrant and clear. On screen text is very sharp and east to see. As far as I can see there are no dead/stuck pixels. The extra real estate on the screen compared to my previous monitor is also a big plus. At its current price, some would call it a bit expensive, I would call it a sound investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good monitor My only issue with this monitor is the set up factor. I am pretty tech savvy but struggled getting this set up as a second monitor to my new 2016 MacBook Pro. I was able to use the cord that was supplied (the display to mini display) but could not find the order to turn on machines to get my computer to recognize the monitor. Way beyond frustrating but it finally worked. I tried to many different ways, that I am not sure what I really did to make it work. Other than that. I love it. I do need to calibrate it as the screen is very bright.
