FilmLight Slate Control Overview

Designed for film production on the move, the Slate Control Surface from FilmLight is a portable, high-precision color-grading panel with context-sensitive controls. Its keys are back-projected and adaptive to show you the functions available to you within your current operation. Moreover, to allow multiple features to be supported, sets of buttons can be swapped into different modes quickly and easily.

One of the most powerful features of Slate is the ability to define custom functionality using the Chalk utility (available separately). Chalk for Slate allows you to customize button layouts for Slate panels. You can select between preset button layouts, make your own unique layouts, and edit the functionality of individual buttons. The Slate control surface is suited to working with the Baselight Editions within your editing or compositing system, and is equally at home with the full Baselight color grading system and with the Daylight platform for the On-Set Dailies system.

Adaptive Keys
All keys are soft-configured so that any operation can be assigned to any key, and have a dynamically displayed label or image that shows the exact context in every operation directly on the key.
Encoders
Slate features twelve limitless optical encoders for rotary input. Each encoder has an integrated push switch for further operations.
Screens
Slate employs two display screens to give the colorist clear and instant feedback. They not only display the values for the current operation, but also show the flow of operations to assist in navigation with more complex tasks.
Context Controls
All controls vary in range, sensitivity, and feedback depending on the operation. The function and labelling of keys, encoders, and displays changes seamlessly with every operation. Slate only illuminates the active controls to speed up navigation.
Trackballs and Rings
The trackballs feature a six-contact point mounting system, ensuring movement is easy in every direction, with third-axis rings designed to float precisely under the lightest touch.

does slate work independantly or used along with one or two of baselight controller?
Asked by: Arun
The FilmLight Slate Control Surface can work independently, or together along side other Filmlight Control Surfaces. The FilmLight Slate Control Surface requires Daylight or Baselight Edition Software to operate.
