Chromecast Audio (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and good audio for your older amps and speakers If you have WiFi in your home, these little, inexpensive, quiet and low-energy devices let you stream audio to your older (non-WiFi, non-Bluetooth) audio amplifiers and powered speakers. The audio can be from an Internet source (e.g., Pandora) or from an in-home source (e.g., Plex on a QNAP NAS or your phone). You control the audio (where it comes from, where it goes, volume) from your mobile device but once the stream starts your device is out of the picture (except when it originates the stream). Very simple to set up, very good quality audio and it works on even marginal WiFi. I do wish more apps were Chromecast-enabled!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from a great puck for the buck Read the Gene T. review on this site re: advanced audio settings which will help the sound quality . . . a bit. A great value, but don't expect audiophile sound quality. I purchased mine to stream Spotify to my expensive but midsized audiophile componet system. The audio quality from the headphone amp connected to the component system (LG G4 Android smartphone) is better than this puck. However, the puck frees up the smartphone and that's a good thing. I suggest searching Google for setup instructions ... this can get tricky. Make sure you have your wifi and security passwords handy along with any passwords for streaming services such as Spotify. It's worth $35.00.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I need more of these! Purchased three of them for our home to be placed in separate rooms for whole home audio. Each took about 60 seconds to set up. Then you add each to a group, and you can create separate groups. Within 10 minutes I had audio playing from Spotify through the whole house! The sync was impeccable as well, there was no noticeable lag between each room, it was seemless as you walk through the house. I'd love to pick up a few more for the garage and other rooms. The only downside is that you need a receiver (my home came with several rooms that had built in speakers) or standalone speakers, but all of that is STILL cheaper than Sonos. This might be my favorite product ever.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value Good, but not great. I had some teething issues, in particular with dropped signals or failure to connect. A quick search online and I found some recommended router configuration settings that needed to be set up. Since this, it has been pretty solid. However, this is not plug and play (at least not for me). The packaging is minimalist and trendy, but considering my experience, it should include explicit trouble shooting instructions rather than my having to blindly follow online advice.....it would be great if BnH included these. Functionality is good. It streams from the android phone, windows pc, Ubuntu laptop, iphone 4 and minimac in my house. I just wish I could stream more apps (eg play any internet radio I want).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wireless speaker system! I picked up some powered (aka active) speakers for the kitchen and added a chromecast audio. With another chromecast audio connected to my living room stereo system I had an instant wireless system for my house (yes, with chromecast audio you can cast to multiple devices simultaneously; hdmi version does not support this). One thing to note... The free version of spotify does NOT support chromecast audio. On the other hand, spotify free DOES support chromecast hdmi (go figure!) and spotify premimum DOES support chromecast audio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great Bought two and connected using 3.5mm to RCA stereo jacks to my existing AV systems on different floors. Set up using app on an Android tablet was dead simple. Also, using latest software update, I set up a group, so I can cast to either Chromecast, or both at the same time. Once set up, casting is reliable and easy, just touch the icon in any supported app, or the extension in a Chrome browser. Sound quality is better than bluetooth or using the phone or tablet's headphone output, and you can still walk around with and use your device. Works equally well with Apple products. Only criticism I can think of is they do feel a bit warm to the touch and are essentially always on waiting for you to cast to them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chromecast Audio After trying a Bluetooth item and not satisfied, then on the recommendation of a audiophile friend of mine I purchased a Chromecast Audio which he uses. I have it connected to my Yamaha R-V1105 running Thiel CS3's using my laptop and home WIFI. Outstanding audio quality when the source is good. Please note: if you plan to watch YouTube music videos, there is a bit of audio lag which can be expected. Also, YouTube audio quality is hit or miss not only with this device but with other options also. Other online audio sources including Pandora sounded great. Lastly, software setup had a bit of difficulty finding the Chromecast Audio device on my home WIFI. Tried several times but once it did setup was a snap. Suggest initial setup having Chromecast Audio unit very close to WIFI router to rule out any signal quality issue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice Hardware, but Dumb The customer should be aware that this device will only play music from the internet and only through apps that have been tailored to Chromecast. If your musical tastes are broad or unusual, you can't just play an internet music stream from a website. At a minimum, you have to go through an additional app like Tunein and hope that they have your internet station. I found this very limiting. Also, Chromecast Audio won't natively play music stored on your computer. In theory, there is additional software to address this issue, but I found it and Chromecast itself to be klunky and difficult to setup and use. I will be returning this device. In fact, I will be staying with my old Squeezebox Touch and would be happy to buy his old Squeezebox Touch from Mike Wish (below).
