K-Tek KSTG70 overview

  • 1Description

Custom-tailored for the Tascam DR-70D and the DR-701D, the KSTG70 Stingray is a lightweight and durable carry bag to shield your valuable recorder from the elements. The rigid vertical frame offers ample protection while providing full access to controls and ports on both sides of the DR-70D or DR-701D. The built-in kickstand allows the recorder to rest securely at a convenient angle to monitor and adjust levels. The side zippers give access to the roomy interior to ensure plenty of space for XLR and TRS connectors.

MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment) straps on the front of the bag allow you to mount wireless receivers and other accessories. The front has a flap that conveniently folds down to access storage media and the battery compartment. The flap also features holes for the two built-in omnidirectional microphones on the recorder. Additionally, the 1/4"-20 screw assembly on top of the recorder can be reached by repositioning the flap to attach to a camera. A dedicated opening in the bag allows access to the tripod screw thread. Four D-rings, for use with K-Tek's Stingray Waistbelt (not included), also offer additional mounting and rigging points. A shoulder strap is included.

  • Built-in kickstand
  • MOLLE straps to attach accessories and receivers (e.g. up to three Sennheiser G3)
  • Full side access and roomy interior for XLR and TRS connectors
  • Full access to battery and media compartments; holes for DR-70D built-in microphones
  • Front flap re-positions for camera use, with dedicated opening for tripod mounting

    K-Tek KSTG70 reviews

    KSTG70 Stingray Bag for the Tascam DR-70D & DR-701D is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good - with a few little tweaks it can be great This is a very well constructed quality unit. The DR-70D fits very well inside, and if your intention is to leave the unit on a table the kickstand is a great addition. However - there are a few things I'd modify to make this absolutely killer in the field. 1st - add a transparent flip cover to keep off the rain if you are using it outside. This is a staple on almost every mixer case so I'm surprised it's not included here. 2nd - Move the kickstand further away from the tripod mounting area. It hits the tripod head and prevents a solid level connection to the tripod. 3rd and final - add some sort of belt loop on the back side. I know the idea is to get the K-Tek audio harness to go with it, but for a lot of indie/low budget OMB setups a belt loop would go a long way in helping. There is presently no way to easily attach this to a regular belt. Having the Molle webbing is really amazing for hanging wireless lavs and adding accessory pouches. Fortunately I picked up a Porta Brace chest harness for next to nothing which eliminates the carrying issue, but it's a need to know, because it more than doubles the price of the unit if you include it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Awkward with DR70D I found this case/bag awkward with the TASCAM 70D and Poulson ULW-16 wireless mics. Reaching the power switch on the TASCAM is awkward and the wireless recievers dont really fit well in the straps provided. Maybe different receivers would work better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality and nice fit. I've only had chance to use this on a couple of shoots, but so far I have to say that it works very well. It offers up good protection while still providing access to all the functions I use. On location, it is lightweight and I had it around my neck for most of the day. At the end of the day only my arms were sore from holding up the boom pole. The kick stand is a nice feature that I use when in the studio and doing video by myself. I set it up just out of the frame and am able to see the audio input at a glance. If all you have is the the KSTG70 recorder and a couple of receivers, this is the perfect bag. But if you have more equipment, get something a little larger. For what I do, this is perfect!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic design and robust build quality This bag was a great surprise when I received it. It is built stronger than I thought with a bit of a stiff build to it making it very durable. It has been thought out beforehand and it is perfectly designed for the Tascam DR-70D. All the access you need to the xlr ports etc are easy to get to. The Malle webbing is perfect for wireless mic mounting to the bag. The plastic see through weather cover is nice to have if you need to be out in the elements. It hangs great off the shoulder and it mounts nicely to a stand as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great carrying bag for on the go sound mixers. I have had a lot of experience using this bag with the DR-70D thanks to my film school. This combo (along with the NTG3) is practically all we use for sound recording. So, when I decided to invest in my own wound equipment, it made sense for me to go with what I knew. With exposition out of the way, I'd like to say that this bag does not disappoint. Fitting the 70D perfectly, with access points to all of its functions, and the convenient shoulder strap, this is a great purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small but pretty awesome! I have a Tascam 70D and this bag fits that recorder perfectly. It has just enough room in either end for my power cords, headphone cord and other necessary items (including XLR shorties) that I need to keep my bag running. I would have given this a five star if there were another pocket in the front of the bag for batteries, receivers, hops, etc. The little straps on the front work great for those receivers that have some kind of belt clip but I have some receivers that have no clips so I had to do a little work with command strips and velcro to make those work. I DID find some hidden screws on both sides of the bag that may allow me to hand something but I haven't had a chance to dig into those yet. It would have been nice if there had been some mention of them in the owners manual. I'm really not sure what they are there for!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not fit DR-701D The overall design is sturdy and strong. However, the cutouts at the top and bottom do not fit with the tripod mount area of DR-701D. I will have to get it out of the bag if I want to mount it on a tripod or to mount a DSLR on top of it. At the end, I do not use it anymore because of the inconvenience for mounting

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Get a bigger bag. Good: it's a bag. Bad: very small. It barely fits the recorder. No other pockets. The flaps don't make sense, no instructions. The reason I purchased the bag was to protect the cords coming off the sides of the recorder, the bag is a bit too small to do that. The cords connectors are too big for the bag.
