K-Tek KSTGMIX: overview

  • 1Description

The K-Tek Stingray MixPro Audio Bag is designed for Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6 recorders with a couple of wireless systems, NP-1 batteries, and various accessories. Also compatible with the Tascam DR-70D and DR-701D, as well as the Zoom F4 and F8, it can help turn your small recorder into a portable workstation with a multitude of options for accessing connectors, controls, and SD card, in various recording environments when working in the field.

The Stingray MixPro features multilayer exterior walls and a rigid vertical frame that allows the bag to better stand on its own, while protecting equipment and providing full access to the sides and bottom of the recorder. The combined front and bottom flap opens wide to access the internal battery packs and media compartments on the bottom of the MixPre units, and can even reattach to the back of the MixPro. It also allows for front-mounting of the recorder to the bottom of a camera.

The removable front pouch storage compartment is large enough to hold NP-1 batteries with cup adapters, while curved zippers encircle each side panel for full access to cabling into the main compartment. MOLLE straps and D-rings offer plenty of rigging points for additional accessories and allow the Stingray MixPro to be connected by harnesses and waist belts (available separately). A built-in kickstand enables the bag to sit at an angle when placed on a tabletop or when resting on the ground.

The Stingray MixPro ships with a shoulder strap and a removable, clear vinyl cover that provides an unobstructed view of the recorder's screen, while shielding it from rain or splashing.

    K-Tek KSTGMIX: reviews

    Stingray MixPro Audio Bag for MixPre-3, MixPre-6, DR-70D & DR-701D Recorders is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well made, but too fussy for my taste I bought this back with the best of intentions, giving my MixPre 6 a good home in a convenient bag to take into the field. If I was producing video I'm betting it would be ideal. But I use it for field-based interviews of individuals and small groups and I actually find the size a little confining and too structured for my taste. I'm going back to using an older PortaBrace bag that is softer, les structure and way easier to run cables to miss and batteries. I find the zipper arrangement on the Stingray not the best option for how I'd like to work. Like I said, it's a well made and probably great for video folks. But for me, not ideal. I'll be selling it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No room for L-Series Sled and Batterys It's a cool bag but when I upgraded to the MX L-Mount Battery Sled (for the L-Series lithium ion batteries) there wasn't enough space in the bag. I can cram one L series battery in at a time and still close the bottom velcro flap, but the depth of the sled causes the front panel of the mixer to protrude to the point where I become nervous about damaging the mixer pots.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from For minimal setup I've used with Dr-701D and Mix-Pre3. Bag has a strap, no padding, side entries and the front panel is attached via velcro that hides away the lower section of the mixer where most batteries or memory cards are located. For Dr-710D, any smaller USB battery pack can be stored in the front pouch and powered via Mini USB. Is held in place by velcro on the front and reaches maximum hold with 3 lavs attached and usb battery cable goes out from front pouch into side of the bag. For MixPre3, a power hungry audio system, it requires a large USB-C battery pack capable to provide USB-C 7.5V of Power. Here is the tricky part, the front pouch is held only via velcro and the top velcro pad also locks down the transparent cover. This is too much weight and your velcro will give up. By the time you are fully loaded, it is already a heavy bag, and the strap has no padding. If you have many things to your setup you should avoid this and go with a shoulder harness support with a bigger bag that doesn't require velcro to keep your things attached. If you are doing long interviews and standing this bag will hurt, unless your pain tolerance for straps is no issue. Quick and light run and guns are very good for this bag. Price, a bit too high for what it is, welcome to pro audio and video world.
