The K-Tek Stingray MixPro Audio Bag is designed for Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6 recorders with a couple of wireless systems, NP-1 batteries, and various accessories. Also compatible with the Tascam DR-70D and DR-701D, as well as the Zoom F4 and F8, it can help turn your small recorder into a portable workstation with a multitude of options for accessing connectors, controls, and SD card, in various recording environments when working in the field.

The Stingray MixPro features multilayer exterior walls and a rigid vertical frame that allows the bag to better stand on its own, while protecting equipment and providing full access to the sides and bottom of the recorder. The combined front and bottom flap opens wide to access the internal battery packs and media compartments on the bottom of the MixPre units, and can even reattach to the back of the MixPro. It also allows for front-mounting of the recorder to the bottom of a camera.

The removable front pouch storage compartment is large enough to hold NP-1 batteries with cup adapters, while curved zippers encircle each side panel for full access to cabling into the main compartment. MOLLE straps and D-rings offer plenty of rigging points for additional accessories and allow the Stingray MixPro to be connected by harnesses and waist belts (available separately). A built-in kickstand enables the bag to sit at an angle when placed on a tabletop or when resting on the ground.

The Stingray MixPro ships with a shoulder strap and a removable, clear vinyl cover that provides an unobstructed view of the recorder's screen, while shielding it from rain or splashing.

K-Tek KSTGMIX: Reviews

OK bag but prefer Strut STR-MP6 field case

I had previously purchased the Strut field case for the MixPre-3 II recorder and liked it in most respects. I bought the K-tek Stingray bag for the MIxPre-6 II recorder and after trying it with the recorder and power supply decided to return it and buy the Strut SRT-MP6 case instead. Two things I disliked about the K-Tek bag is that there is no opening between the front pocket or pouch and the main compartment for a power cable, and I needed to leave the sides unzipped and flapping about while using the bag with mics plugged in. With the Strut STR-MP6 (which is a notable improvement over their MixPre-3 bag) there is an opening between the main compartment for the recorder and the front pocket where a power bank can be held. The Strut bag also has both Velcro closures for the ends and partial zipper openings as well. The ends can be open while inserting mic cables and then closed and the controls accessed from above or by unzipping the end sections while still protecting the mic ports of the recorder from windblown dust or water. The Stingray is a very good bag but for the MixPre-6 recorder the Strut is better designed and includes a carry harness as part of the package and still costs $97 less than the K-Tek bag.

Well made bag - a little tight

The bag is well made and seems to fit my mixpre6 well! The only thing I wish I would have known is it does not fit my MixPre 6 with two L Series Batteries attached. I feel like this should probably be advertised or said. It fits really snug with one battery so that will be enough for now but def is something that should be said! Do not buy if you wish to use the L Series Battery adapter.

Highest quality compact bag

There are only a few location sound bag makers. K-Tek materials and sewing is the best in the industry. I wanted the most compact bag possible for a MixPre. This one will hold some powering options, 2 standard receivers, and a compact timecode system inside the bag. The front pouch can be detached, and I leave it at home for ultra lightweight projects, like field recording. There are also windows to use the top and bottom threaded inserts on the MixPre with the mixer between the tripod and a camera. For heaver projects, it would be nice if the metal rivets could have a threaded insert to attach a bracket to hold a tablet or phone to run script, manage timecode, or provide the Wingman interface. They have that in their newer X-Series.

CLEANEST RECORDINGS

I am a independent filmmaker and while I’m good at cinematography, sound is VERY important to me! I was using ZOOM’s F8 recorder and always eyed sound devices from hired audio guys on my a few of my projects. Listening to my own recordings on the MixPre 6 II, I went crazy!!! The pre’s are SUPER SUPER CLEAN— even the headphone jack! While zoom had decent pres, still noisy especially compared to this beast. 32 bit float!!! It’s totally worth the money.

Is this the exact same bag as the older KSTG70 meant for the Tascam DR-70D/701D just with the addition of the front pouch? If not, what are the differences between the two (i.e. interior size, etc.)?
Asked by: Hans
This bag is the direct replacement for the KSTG70. It size is practically the same, just slightly bigger in the interior. Interior size this bag- 7.5 x 2 x 5" vs interior of the previous bag- 6.7 x 2.4 x 4.7.

Is it possible to use the Zoom F6 with this bag? Looking for something with more space than the Ktek KSF6.
Asked by: rick
The interior dimensions of the K-Tek Stingray MixPro Audio Bag are 7.5 x 2 x 5" (191 x 51 x 127 mm) and the Zoom F6 Multitrack Field Recorder is 3.9 x 2.5 x 4.7" (100 x 62.9 x 119.8 mm). The MixPro Bag is not thick enough to handle the recorder's 2.5" height. A better option may be the ORCA OR-28 Mini Audio Bag (B&H # OROR28) which has interior dimensions of 8.5 x 6.5 x 4.5" (215 x 165 x 115 mm).
