IDX System Technology VBD-Series Reviews

Great batteries, good price

I shoot for the better part of the day with my Panasonic UX180 so they last a long time. The weight of the larger size battery helps balance the camera on my tripod setup as well. I 'm not seeing the looseness or play that others have commented on with the two I have. In fact, the Panasonic battery that was included has more play in than the IDX batteries.

Works on my EVA1

I got two of these IDX VBD96 Batteries from B&H and they last about 4-5 hours each. They do have a little play, as others have mentioned (to the point where they cut out power). Not on the ones I got though. I've tested them by forcefully moving them around trying to cut the power and it wouldn't happen. I've read in the EVA1 facebook group, several people who tried the same test to make sure the power doesn't cut, and they also couldn't replicate cutting the power. However, I've also seen in the EVA1 youtube review from Hotrod Cameras, that there are certain IDX units have too much play causing power loss. I assume it may be a mixed bag in terms of fit and quality from the factory. I'm happy with mine though. Great bang for your buck.

Not for the EVA1

I purchased this battery for the EVA1 as an alternative to the more expensive Panasonic battery. Don't waist your time. It fits the camera battery mount so loosely that with camera movement or tilting, it will disconnect power to the camera. In contrast, the factory Panasonic battery fits the mount snugly with no wiggle room and no problems.

Don't buy. Get the Core SWX NANO-VBR98 instead.

These batteries are great for powering the EVA1, but the X-Tap connection is useless. The only accessory I have found that supports an X-Tap connection is an X-Tap plug connected to open wires. IDX enthusiastically recommends soldering these wires to your preferred connector, such as an L-series dummy battery, but I don't think connecting a shoddy soldering job to my $2k monitor is a good idea. I originally bought these batteries because I thought the X-Tap was a D-Tap. Shame on me for not deeply researching the specs. Overall, the battery is great if you are only trying to power the camera. But, if you also want to power accessories, you should instead opt for the Core SWX NANO-VBR98, which has the preferred D-Tap port built in.

Tested it out and it lasted 5 hours with display on and recording on my AG-Cx350. Fit is snug. No play. Great price I'll pick up another.

Good Battery for the price

Ive purchased two IDX 7.2 batteries so far and now Im about to buy another one. Im good with the the two but because its on sale Im adding a third one to my arsenal. I have been using the IDX 7.2V  for about 7 months now video recording news and shooting live shots. Im very happy with it, I can get almost 3 hours record time in the summer and about 2 hours in the winter. I used these batteries with the   AJ-PX270 microP2 AVC-ULTRA HandheldCamcorder I havent had it a year yet but for now I would recommend it especially if youre using it with the Panasonic AJ-PX270.

Compatible, but loose in the DVX200

I was wrong not to have listened to the other reviewers who said it was loose inside the DVX200. We got two... and they are loose inside the DVX200. So loose that the camera shuts off sometimes when you hand-hold. I will try to shove some bits of folded paper to wedge it in, and I'll update this when I do. When not mounted in camera, the USB jack did not seem to have any juice to it. It would not power a simple iPhone charging cord. Power indicator on it is a nice feature. (Also, while the USB port on the battery is an incredible idea, be aware of the DVX200 which encloses the battery inside it's case... rendering the USB connection unreachable and a waste of purchase money. But this is more about the camera than the battery.)
