I bought the Manfrotto 492 ballmount and it doesn't want to attach on either of the 2 cold shoe mounts on the handle, but it fits the one on the cage. Why aren't the mounts a standard size? Also the tightening knobs are too big and can get in the way of your grip. The wood is a nice touch though and the power button is easier to operate than the stock one.

What protocol does the handle use? Is it a standard lanc remote?
That is correct, the handle itself uses LANC protocols. However included with this handle is the needed LANC to Multi-Terminal Cable which will allow it to work with the A7 II line up of cameras it is listed for.

Can I use this handle with my a7s1 too?
The Sony a7S is controlled by a micro Multi Terminal connection. That is what is here. We believe that this should work as well.
