Mic Mod from Antares Audio Technologies is a plug-in that allows the user to change the sound of the microphone they are using to one of a number of classic mics, from Neumann, AKG, and others, plus a wide selection of modern boutique mics. The plug-in can be used to simply change the sound of the source microphone, to experiment in live situations with microphones that would not normally be utilized, or to change the sound of a recorded track later in a mixing session.
Additional controls allow for creating a proximity effect, for employing a low-cut filter if the model supports it, for experimenting with polar patterns in both the source and destination microphones, or for adding tube saturation.
Features
- Source and modeled microphones—simply select the current microphone (or the one used during an original recording) and the desired modeled microphone
- Proximity controls create the bass-boost effect that results from placing a directional microphone in close proximity to a signal source (e.g. a singer's lips)—create the effects of different microphone distances based on the specific physical properties of each individual modeled microphone
- If the selected modeled microphone has a low-cut filter, model the effects of any of its settings with the modeled microphone low-cut menu
- If the source microphone has variable pickup patterns, enter the selected pattern in the source microphone pattern menu for further experimentation—likewise for the modeled microphone
- Tube saturation control imparts the warmth of a high-quality tube preamp to any given track
