Kensington ruined this trackball

Three years ago this was a great trackball. But the current design goes to sleep after a little more than 30 minutes of inactivity and requires you to click one of the mouse buttons to wake it up. This click is registered by the operating system, so you end up clicking whatever was under the mouse cursor at the time. This is a terrible design, especially if you are typing for more than 30 minutes and don't touch the mouse, then need the mouse and you click the close window button or something like that by accident because clicking a mouse button is the only way to wake it up. They need to go back to the old design where just moving the trackball woke it up and/or not going to sleep, or at least not cause the mouse click that wakes up the mouse to actually be sent to the OS. It took me more than a month of chatting with Kensington tech support to finally get them to confirm this is the new design. They sent me 2 replacement mice that all had the same issue. I originally had to buy a new one in December of 2023 because my old one from a few years ago was starting to fail, that is when I discovered this new terrible design.

question

WIll Trackballworks be supported over Bluetooth on Mac OSX 10.10+ eventually? I was disappointed to read that this product currently cannot be used over bluetooth on Mac OSX, as specified you must use the 2.4Ghz receiver. Seems to me this should have been disclosed on the product details.

Question for people who have used this, and also Apple's wireless trackpad. Is this a better user experience or easier on the wrists?
Asked by: Basil
They are both easy on the wrists. Their style benefit is something each will find differently.

How long does the battery last? Used to have the predecessor with 2 D cells and they didn't last that long (2 months?).
Asked by: Stefan
It will highly come down to how much you use it. With an average use of 8 hrs a day, it could last 3-4 months or longer.

question

me and my movie
Asked by: Tracy M.
I have the very latest Mac OSX 10.13.4 and the Kensington software only allows the 2.4GHz receiver to be used, Bluetooth is not available. In addition, the 2.4GHz receiver has trouble during wakeup if the Mac has been 'sleeping', many times my receiver needs to be unplugged/replugged so the Mac OS can find it again, this is a pain in the neck. I have called Kensington Support and all they could suggest was to put new batteries in the Expert Mouse, of course that made zero difference. I have been a USB Expert Mouse Trackball user for over 10 years but this model does not work right with Mac's. The Trackball software and Expert Mouse are flawed, don't waste your money.

question

I wasn't signed in when I asked my question. Been using a wired Expert for 30 years. Purchased a Blue Tooth wireless when my wired died. It wont pair with either of my HP laptops one is running Win8.1 the other Win 10. Whats a girl to do?
Asked by: Sherri A.
Kathryn C. hit the nail on the head and the only other thing I would add is to make sure the switch on the bottom is in the correct position for Bluetooth. I have mine connected to an HP desktop running Windows 10.
