B+W 66-1069129 overview

  • 1Description

The B+W Series 8 MRC 102M Solid Neutral Density 0.6 Filter is an ND filter with a 4x filter factor that provides a 2-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.6 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity. This filter features a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    B+W 66-1069129 reviews

Series 8 MRC 102M Solid Neutral Density 0.6 Filter (2 Stop) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not truly neutral, otherwise OK Also bought this for the 21 Summilux. This is something I wanted to get for some time but was usually unavailable, so jumped at it when I noticed it in stock. Image quality seems consistent across the frame compared to images without the filter. The only noticeable difference with the filter, is that images are overall slightly warmer. Comparisons and corrections in Lightroom to match images without the filter indicate about 400K warmer and a slight green tint shift, too (with the M240). Two stops seems just enough to allow use of this lens wide open in full sunlight with the M240. I had planned to get the three stop version when I was primarily using the M9 because it seems to tolerate clipped highlights rather poorly, but the M240 has better leeway here, making this filter practical in that it could be left on most of the time in good light. There may be very, very slight focus shift away from the camera, but I need to test this more. Normally I suspect this wouldn't be noticeable, but depth of field with this lens at near distances is quite shallow. The filter arrived with some slight smudges that could only be seen at certain angles. Consistent with my experience with other B+W filters, this filter was somewhat difficult to clean perfectly (I used ROR fluid and Kimtech tissue). It fits very precisely in the 21 Lux's hood, not leaving much room. Be sure to drop it in with the exposed shallow inner thread facing back to the lens to give your fingernail something to grab when later trying to remove the filter, otherwise you'll probably end up touching the glass and having to clean it... Taking one star off due to the color shift/tint, which requires some additional work in post to match to images without the filter as well as the overall white balance consistency of my other M lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well with the 21mm Summilux Helps with keeping the shutter speed down when shooting full open for those narrow depth of field shots. Took the best part of 3 months to order.
