Characterized by its uniquely durable construction, the 67mm WR Ceramic Protector Filter from Sigma is a clear filter designed to guard the front of a lens from impacts, scratching, and other elements. Developed using a clear glass ceramic substrate, this filter blends a high 99.76% transmittance value with greater hardness than chemically-strengthened glass and greater flexibility than sapphire crystal glass. This results in a build that is shock- and scratch-resistant to withstand a variety of impacts while shooting. Additionally, a water-repellent coating has also been applied to resist water droplets and fingerprint smudging, as well as static electricity from attracting dust or other particles. Built for use in trying conditions, the unique design of the WR Ceramic Protector Filter helps to maintain the lens' inherent image quality while affording a high degree of protection.

Clear protection filter guards the front lens element from a variety of impacts and scratching without affecting image quality.
Clear glass ceramic is a highly durable substrate that has a greater hardness than chemically-strengthened glass and more flexibility than sapphire crystal glass.
Unique construction has a Vickers hardness number of 700HV, making it both scratch- and shock-resistant. This hardness also lessens the likelihood of scratching or chipping that can lead to the filter shattering.
Rather than only the surface structure being hardened, clear glass ceramic involves a heat treatment process that precipitates microcrystals of a mineral called spinel in order to achieve consistent, even strength across the entire filter surface. This strength also enables the design of the filter to be notably thin and lightweight.
A water-repellent (WR) coating has been applied that, in addition to preventing water and oil from adhering to the filter surface, also helps to minimize ghosting and flare. This coating reflects 0.24% of light, giving an overall transmittance value of 99.76%.
The WR coating also serves as an anti-static coating, which helps to repel dust or other particles from clinging to the filter surface.
The included hard acrylic case protects the filter when not in use and has been designed to prevent accidental, unwanted opening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For Filter Believers There's a controversy about whether filters protect lenses, but my experience is that they do. Given that, I'll try this out and see if it is better.I replaced 67mm and 72mm B&W's with these Sigmas and saved 1 Ounce/28 Grams. Not much, but for those backpackers who cut off toothbrushes, it all adds up.How these filters handle Pacific storms and salt spray will be the reals test.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like it will do as promised So far this is a great looking piece of glass. Images are sharp. I haven't dropped or hit the lens yet, so I can't testify as to how hard the glass really is!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great protective filter I own several Sigma Ceramic WR filters from 67-82mm. All of them are great, and none of them have been scratched or otherwise damaged in any way. I have not noticed any issues with flare or other impacts on the image quality. They are resistant to getting smudged, and they are very easy to clean. Price wise, they cost about the same as BW XS-pro. I prefer Sigma because of the stronger glass and because they are easier to clean. The XS-Pro slim filters have a slightly thinner frame, and hold a theoretical advantage with regards to vignetting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be Protected from the Worst that Can Happen This is the third Sigma ceramic filter I've bought. I have always used filters on my lenses ever since I started as a serious photographer in 1965. It makes sense to me to protect the front element of your lens. People gas on and on about filters reducing resolution or inducing ghost reflections. I've never noticed any such thing. In fact a couple years ago I did a serious test on my Zeiss Otus 85 mm taking pictures at night and shining a bright flash light into the lens from a very close distance trying hard to induce flare and reflections. There was no difference between pictures taken with the filter on and with the filter off. I have no reason to think that a test with the Sigma ceramic would produce any different outcome. I have noticed that after many years of use my protective filters pick up many fine, barely discernible scratches. These do not seem to cause any problem at all in picture making; however, would you really like to have those scratches on your front element? (And according to Sigma these ceramic filters are extremely scratch resistant.) The Sigma video on this filter sold me! No I'm not going to drop a ball bearing on my lens but I feel reassured that it would survive such abuse without a scratch. I'm glad that Sigma has anticipated the worst and protected my lenses from it.
