Nitecore MH27 overview

  • 1Description

Nitecore's versatile and compact MH27 Rechargeable Multi-Spectrum LED Flashlight is as powerful as larger search lights yet fits comfortably in your hand. This illuminator uses a white Cree XP-L HI V3 primary LED to produce four outputs from an energy-saving 1 lumen minimum output, to a darkness-piercing 1000-lumen turbo.

In addition to the white emitter, there is an array of secondary-colored LEDs - blue, red, and green - set around the main reflector that provide colored light to perform tasks without interfering with night-adjusted vision. Adding to the MH27's versatility are three strobe modes and three colored flashing modes that can be used for everything from directing traffic to sending a distress signal.

The light is designed with tactical professionals in mind. It has a two-stage pushbutton tailcap switch with momentary and constant-on modes. This switch has last-mode-memory for the primary outputs and strobe mode so you can set the output ahead of time and go right to that intensity or mode immediately. For special situations, users have instant access to both the red LED light and 1000-lumen Turbo output for checking IDs and lighting large areas or to search. An included tactical ring can be installed on the handle to help facilitate various pistol/light grip techniques.

Complementing the multiple light outputs is a housing that is built to withstand years of use. Its aluminum alloy body has a scratch and corrosion-resistant Type III hard anodized finish, with a scratch-resistant tempered reflector window that has an anti-reflection coating to maximize light transmission. The light is impact-resistant and IPX8-rated, making it fully submersible to a depth of over 6.5 feet. Heat diffusing fins built into the head provide passive overheat protection, while heat-management circuitry automatically monitors and adjusts the output and performance to prevent damage to the light.

    Nitecore MH27 reviews

MH27 Rechargeable Multi-Spectrum LED Flashlight is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful Tactical Light, Versatile, Dependable, EDC Two things you need to know before anything else: It does not come with batteries, so you need to order either rechargeable 18650 or CR-123 (rechargeable or not) to use with the light. The second thing is that the flashlight is packed at the factory with a gel pack behind the bulb, so that pack has to be removed before inserting the batteries, or they won't fit and there won't be a connection to activate the LED. I did not see this in the operating instructions and returned the first MH27 to B&H as defective, but it was not defective, it just needed to have the gel pack removed. The light is extremely powerful with a long throw and yet it can easily be carried on a duty belt for law enforcement use. It also has a police emergency flashing red/blue alternating mode, that is useful in law enforcement signaling during LE operations, such as traffic control, etc., but should not be used by the general public, so there should be some instructions in the literature to that effect. It is activated by a tailcap switch and cycled with a body switch, but the tailcap switch has the memory of the last mode, so it turns on either momentarily, or constantly, in the last mode used. That's helpful for tactical use, but mainly I like the long throw of this light. I would recommend this for duty carry without hesitation, but also for home emergency use and for camping. I use it while running, as a safety light to signal traffic, because I run early in the morning, before sunrise, on a road shoulder and face traffic. You can't ignore this light, but it should be used for signaling only and not in the driver's eyes. It is a very powerful and versatile light that is easy to carry and recharge via a USB cable (provided) so I would say that so far I am happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be careful when selecting battery type. This is a great flash light. Powerful, compact, loaded with useful features and well-built. Perfect for my night photography, allowing me to wash colors and use red to preserve my night vision. However, under the recommended accessories I chose 2 Watson CR-123A batteries. When I went to charge these batteries via my computer's USB port (a product feature), I got the blue rapidly flashing lights indicating a charging problem. Didn't go away after 8 hours of connection but all functions of light seem to work properly. I wrote to Nitecore and they responded that only the larger single 18650 is the only battery type rechargeable through the USB cable. So I ended up buying a Watson double charger which includes two more CR-123 batteries. One thing to note, the larger battery takes around three times the amount of time to recharge via USB than the smaller CR-123 with wall charger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full featured 1000 Lumens LED Tactical Flashlight This is a full featured, up to 1000 Lumens military grade hard-anodized flashlight featuring the new Cree LED. At the highest setting, it is extremely bright and rated at throw distances of up to 1515 feet (462 meters). There is also a medium and lowlight setting as well as individual red, green & blue lights for extensive applications. Quick operation. Special modes: Strobe, Location Beacon, SOS. Other features: waterproof (up to 6 feet), impact resistant and convenient USB charging of optional battery within the MH27. A Micro USB cable is supplied, as well a nylon belt case, metal ring clip, lanyard, extra USB port door, extra weather seal rings, extra rubber tactical swith button, User Guide and a 5 year warranty. I am using one optional rechargeable Nitecore 18650 Li-ion battery to power this flashlight. It is designed for military, hunting, law enforcement or search & rescue purposes but can be used for other applications such as in my night photography. See example (last photo) of how I illuminated a dark stone bridge in darkness during long exposure photography. This technique is called painting with light where you set a long exposure shutter speed on your tripod-positioned SLR camera and start the exposure while lighting up the bridge with the LED flashlight in a left-to-righ-back to left fashion, until the exposure is finished in the camera. The final output is a correctly exposed scene with the help of my MH27 LED. Recommended for multi task uses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great All Purpose Light. I love the multiple options it provides and the USB charging port. The Green, red, and blue lights are very useful to protect your night vision. The carry pouch could be a little bigger though, still a very good light to have around the home or in the car.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It takes 2-3 Months for Warranty Repair Beware: my MH27 main LED went out. I returned it to Nitecore in Texas. They sent the MH27 back to China for repair. They quoted me 2-3 months to repair after I sent them the MH27.
