Great Mic Stand For The Road

I bought the TAMA Tour Mic Stand to take on location audio situations that require a voice over along with specific voice over style microphones. This is primarily for clients that prefer or feel more comfortable having a mic stand. The TAMA Tour Series stand gets a 5 Star rating primarily for its solid build quality with a reasonable weight to keep it portable and easy to transport. I prefer the TAMA Tour round base because the stand does not thread directly into the base ( a weakness of other brand round base stands) and is not subject to cross threading or breakage at the base. The center shaft of the TAMA stand actually slides into the base and is secured by a T-bolt from the bottom side of the round base. Genius! I prefer the TAMA Tour Series to other non-TAMA brands for solid performance, portability and durability. I would not consider adding a boom arm to this particular stand and suspend any of my microphones at any distance away from the main shaft. If you need a boom arm stand get one with a tripod base for stability. For vocalists, public address or voice over this stand will serve you well. Disclaimer: the only stands I like better than the TAMA Tour Series stands are the TAMA Studio Series stands which are the finest mic stands out there. They are extremely stable, built like a tank, and heavy! The Studio Series is hands down the best mic stands you can buy in my book. If you dont move your mic stands around much for location work, get the Studio Series. If you move your mic stands around frequently and portability is at the top of your list, then the Tama Tour Series deserves your serious consideration.

Best Tabletop Stand Made

I do professional location audio and primarily use a boom pole 99% of the time.  Every now and then the client requests an impromptu voice over session and prefers the feel/vibe of a mic stand to address a microphone.  I keep the TAMA Tour Tabletop Stand and a Tour Straight Stand in my van for such situations.  Im a huge fan of TAMA Iron Works Stands because of their superior build quality.  The Tour Series is a great option--weight wise--for portability and moving around.  For my home studio I prefer the TAMA Studio stands with their extra weight and stability.  This Tabletop Stand works equally well in both of those realms.  TAMA resolved an age old design flaw of other brand mic stands that screw into their bases.  Over time the center post threads can strip or break.  TAMA solved this issue by having the center post insert into a sleeve in the base and fastening from underneath with a T-fastener.  TAMA mic stands are living proof of the old adage buy nice or buy twice.  These are nice stands that should easily outlive you.
