ikan PT-ELITE-PRO Overview

From Manufacturer

The ikan Elite Pro has all the same features as the Elite V2, but instead of a standard tablet mount, it includes a larger mount supporting the iPad Pro, Surface Pro, and all other tablets ranging from 6 x 9 to 9 x 12" in size. The Elite Pro has a more flexible design than the original Elite prompter, featuring an adjustable/foldable glass frame and quick-release camera platform. The range of supported cameras sizes runs from small mirrorless to mid-level camcorder sizes. Successfully tested cameras include the Sony a7S on the small end, Canon C100 in the mid-range, and Panasonic DVX200 on the large end. The Elite Pro uses a scientific-grade 70/30 glass, housed in an adjustable frame with a magnetic hood that provides a 20 ft reading range. The tripod-mount platform underneath the rods has a wide design and features multiple mounting holes, allowing for better stability and balance.

You can use any prompter app compatible with your tablet, including the Elite Prompter App, which is available sold separately at the App Store, Google Play, and other outlets. An Elite Remote Control designed specifically for iPads is also available sold separately (it works only with the Elite app). Disappointing & cheaply made

First impressions aren't good. If this was a $400 package, I would figure I got what I paid for. At $950 I expected a lot more, and feel ripped off. 1- Tablet holder is a flimsy piece of plastic with thumb-screw adjusted metal L brackets. This should be a machined aluminum plate with spring-loaded clips to hold the tablet. It is secured to the rods with one thumb screw, which is too long (a washer must be used) and doesn't hold the bracket square. With a teleprompter everything needs to be squared up and lined up. The 'large tablet adapter' is a 2 aluminum spacer which is also secured with 1 additional thumb screw, increasing the mobility of the ipad holder. This should have been done with a cheese plate, or a long channel/extendable aluminum plate, or at the least 2 screws so it doesn't move. So far not good. 2- The riser for the camera IS NOT height adjustable, except for 1/4. This means it is too low for a Canon R6 (with a 70mm lens the bottom 1/4 of the frame is catching the matte box on the back of the hood) and nearly too tall for a Canon R3 with the same lens (it works if you tip the glass up to about 60 degrees) WHY IS THE CAMERA PLATFORM NOT HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE? How is this supposed to fit 'many different camera sizes'? Where are the different height plates for the camera platform? Where do I buy them? ??? 3- This setup uses hex screws with 4 different head sizes, and includes 3 hex keys, so without extra tools you can't remove the camera platform (see above). 2 head sizes should be plenti. This feels like it was thrown together from spare parts after an evening of drinking. I will absolutely look for products from a different brand going forward.

nice size upgrade, heavy and not smooth assembly

I bought this as a size upgrade for an 8inch Auto Que mirror and rig I bought 4 years ago. That was super expensive at the time (just before ipad prompters became the norm for run and gun). Altho expensive - the rail system was top notch and you could easily move the camera back and forth and keep the base on camera for quick set up. I stopped using the Auto Que wired screen and software and used an Ipad Pro - which I had to bring the edges in to fit the smaller screen. Unable to find an auto Que mirror upgrade - I went down this route. Mirror looks great once set up - but the whole piece is heavy and clunky to adjust. Altho it is built on rails - they are encase in this metal housing - so it doesn't have any inter-changeability with other rail components. and it is really just geared towards mirrorless. My C200 will fit - but would only be secured by a 1/4 screw on the multi-level stand, which is awkward to attach to. Sony A7riii works well - but with no XLR inputs - I will now be running the boom wirelessly via a Senheiser transmitter. I would pay more for something more modular/light nut didn't see anything out there geared towards tablets. Luckily I can still use the Auto Que piece as a tripod rig and the mirror can serve as a matte box of sorts.

Is it possible to hook up two units to be fed by a single source?
Asked by: Gary
This is a Tablet Teleprompter System, which means you would need a way to send the same signal to two tablets which is not something we are aware of at this time. A Teleprompter that works with a computer would be a better choice as you can use a splitter to send the feed from your computer to the two different prompters. question

Can anyone recommend a case for this prompter? The dimensions I was given by iKan for the foam are 19.5 (L) x 15.5 (W) x 6.75 (D).... Any suggestions?
Asked by: Andrew R.
According to ikan, the Elite Pro will fit in this: SKB iSeries 1914N-8 Waterproof Utility Case with Dividers B&H # SK3I1914N8BD. They also caution not to throw away the foam that the teleprompter comes in. It provides a perfect fit with the 1914N-8.

question

Does this fit the Black Magic Ursa Mini Pro?
Asked by: courtney r.
Yes, the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro can be used with this prompter. Be sure to have a tripod and video head that have the weight capacity to handle the prompter, camera, battery, and lens.

question

I want to use this in a live sports environment with a Hitachi HDZ5000 camera. I'd like to mount the prompter on it's own tripod and move the Hitachi camera in behind the hood during pregame or at half time, and then back out to cover the game. Has anyone used it as a stand alone unit? Do you forsee any problems with this plan?
Asked by: Greg T.
Sounds like a plan to us. We would think if you mounted this on a light stand, i.e. a support with one pole, that should pose no issue as far as saddling up with a video tripod on a dolly. If you use a tripod for the prompter, you may or may not have issues with getting the camera tripod close enough.

question

The specs show that this teleprompter can use a tablet of maximum size 12 x 9. Is that a hard number, or it is possible to fit one it that is a bit larger, such as 12.25 wide?
Asked by: Hugo
The current iPad Pro is listed as 12 /305.7mm on Apple's website. If you convert 305.7mm to inches, it's just a hair bigger than 12 (12.04 ). Is that hair that prevents me from being able to fit it perfectly on the prompter. I can't secure it in that direction. I called iKan before buying it and they said it would fit. It doesn't.

IS THERE A LARGE (iPad Pro) SIZE OF THIS THAT IS FREESTANDING? TO BE USED WITH A LIGHT STAND? Thanks!
Asked by: Christopher
The ikan Elite Pro Universal Large Tablet Teleprompter (B&H# IKPTELITEPRO) may be used with tablets (among them many iPad Pros) ranging from 6 x 9 (15.24 x 22.86cm) to 9 x 12" (22.86 x 30.48cm) in size. As of August 2022, the current M1-based model of iPad Pro is 11.04 x 8.46" (28 x 21.5cm). As such, it will fit in the ikan Elite Pro Universal Large Tablet Teleprompter. The largest iPad Pros ever made were the first and second generation models which were 12 x 8.68" (30.6 x 22.1cm), and those will fit, too.

How is the visibility outdoors?

How is the visibility outdoors?
Asked by: Joshua
This teleprompter is not designed to be daylight viewable If you plan to use it outdoors its performance is going to be determined by the brightness of the screen on the tablet that you intend to use. Typically a teleprompter designed for outdoor use has a brightness measurements of 1000+ nits while the average tablet has a brightness between 300-500 nits. This doesn't necessarily mean that you 100% can't or shouldn't use it outdoors but it will be much easier to read the screen on an overcast day than on a bright summer day.
