    Intel NUC6i5SYH reviews

NUC6i5SYH Mini PC NUC Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4K Home Theater PC - Windows 8.1 & Media Center Edition A HTPC for a 4K TV needs a CPU with >4000 on Passmark and as much GPU power as possible. The Intel 6260U CPU totally outpaces my 2 year old AMD A10-7850 in 15 watts instead of 95 watts. It finally plays 4K Youtube video without a dedicated graphics card. This Intel box packs a lot of storage because you can fit an M.2 card plus either an SSD or a 2.5 2TB Spinpoint drive inside. Intel could: 1. Have better English instructions 2. Tell you where to get the one program that will load all the latest drivers. 3. Have the screen come up sooner. You press the power button and wonder if the screen will ever display.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every dollar I ordered the Intel NUC6i5SYH as a replacement for my laptop, which I never seemed to take off the desk anyway. The computer was easy to set up (four large-ish screws on the base were all I had to remove to get inside), and it's smaller and quieter than I was expecting. Also nice is the fact that the case is made of solid aluminum, when a lot of the competition would just use painted plastic. This isn't the fastest computer out there, but you can tell that just by looking at the specs. What it does provide is room for future upgrades (RAM can go up to 32GB, and you have room for both 2.5 SSD and M.2 hard drives), so I don't expect to have to upgrade again for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suits my purpose perfectly I use the NUC as a desktop replacement. It sits right on my desk, next to the monitor. Since there is no cooling fan, it makes no noise at all. There are enough USB 3.0 ports to connect peripheral devices. I installed a Samsung 850 evo M.2 SSD, and will be adding a higher capacity SSD for more storage later on. There is very little heat generated even after hours of use. It arrived right on time via UPS. However, the shipping box was severely crushed on one side. I blame UPS for the mishandling. It did not affect the Intel box inside. Including 16 GB of DDR-4 (2133) memory and Windows 10, the cost is still much less than buying a regular desktop with a lesser configuration. So far, so good. Only time will tell how it fares in the long run.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Great Little PC! I knew this kit was going to be small, and adding a specialty lid from another online store, I found the inside USB headers very tight indeed. Otherwise, assembly was very easy, with RAM and m.2 SSD going in very easily. I would recommend this kit to anyone with a little hand skill for assembly. The price savings is significant vs. buying this kit prebuilt. Performance is speedy, but not gamer quality. Very adequate for anything else, including high-def streaming video using Miracast or WiDi to a ScreenBeam Receiver for HDTV display. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (add-ons) also work very well with few issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from outstanding little machine, fast and quiet Fast and quiet machine. I've got two of these one running Windows 10 and the second running Linux Mint. Overall both operating systems boot quickly and run fast. Here is a breakdown by OS Linux Mint Installed the OS from a flash drive. No issues on installation and everything came up immediately. One note, the wireless does not work with the latest Mint distribution. I've read that a later OS kernel is required. I'm wired so it made no difference to me. I did some optimization of the OS to work better with the SSD. System now boots in 26 seconds. The whole process including optimization took about an hour. Windows 10 The Windows 10 setup was a OEM CD. Install was flawless. Note that the latest Intel drivers are needed to get the network to work. I downloaded them from Intel on another machine to flash disk and they installed with no problems. I also updated all the drivers available. The whole install took about an hour including driver installation. A note about the hardware. I had one Nuc fail within the first 10 days of use. I returned it to the seller and bought my second unit from B&H. One unit doesn't make a trend, but check around for others experiences with this unit. I'm using 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 250 GB SSD in each machine. I'd give it five stars except for the failure of the first box. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact all in one unit. This is a nice, compact all in one unit. It comes with a power supply and VESA mounting bracket. More than fast enough for anything other than an engineering workstation, and it runs current GNU Linux distros nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Run Linux on the NUC6i5 I'm running Antergos on the NUC6i5 with no issues. Everything works: I do video editing and transcoding, and image processing and manipulation. However, under load, you will hear the fan working. This is a great all round desktop computer in a very small footprint and yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
