Regent Royal Film RRF4550 overview

  • 1Description

Regent Royal Hard Dot from Dot Works is a line and halftone camera film designed for pre-press applications. This high-speed, high-contrast film is characterized by a very steep gradation and gradation tone, along with a wide density range with low Dmax for enhanced UV transmission. For easy handling of the film, the emulsion incorporates a dedicated layer to prevent Newton rings, as well as separate anti-static and anti-stress layers to protect against dust, scratches, and other damage. The film is designed for rapid access processing in ACD chemistry, such as Majestic 650.

This item is one box of 50 sheets of 4 x 5" film.

Regent Royal Film RRF4550 reviews

Regent Royal Hard Dot Camera Film (4 x 5", 50 Sheets) is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for contrast masking! This is a graphic arts film with a very steep curve, similar to the long gone Kodalith. It is orthochromatic. I'm using it under a red Premier safelight filter. The gray side is the emulsion side. It has an ISO of about 6, I guess. It is being used to make unsharp positive masks for contrast control in black and white analog printing. It gives no midtones when developed in Dektol 1+2, and the full range of midtones wanted in masking when developed in Dektol 1+50 (one plus fifty) , 68 degrees F, 3 to 7 minutes, depending upon the contrast desired. This product really fills a niche.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for Caffenol The film is made for a special rapid development process. I had hoped I could use it with Caffenol, but it just didn't work. The results were inconsistent even when using tray development. Another issue is the size. It should fit in 4x5 film holders, but I had to trim it to make it fit. Additionally, the film has no notch to indicate which is the emulsion side. It turned out to be a lot of work for nothing. I'm 20 shots into this pack and still haven't broken the code on how to use Caffenol with this film. This stuff isn't for me.
