Manfrotto 322RC2 Overview

This Manfrotto 322RC2 Ball Head Kit from B&H includes one 322RC2 Ball Head with a 322RA Quick Release Adapter that features an RC2 quick release cam lock, a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate, and a spare 322RA Quick Release Adapter.

Manfrotto 322RC2 Ball Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate and 322RA Quick Release Adapter

The 322RC2 Ball Head from Manfrotto can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. By squeezing the control handle's integrated trigger, the head's ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. A thumbwheel set within the control handle can be rotated to apply tension control to the ball-and-socket joint's movements. Once the squeeze trigger is released, any adjustments to the position of the ball-and-socket joint are locked into place.

The control handle is initially oriented to provide a horizontal grip for the right hand. However, the included 322RA Quick Release Adapter with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate are detachable and can be repositioned to enable left-handed use with a horizontal grip. Alternatively, the 322RC2 can be transformed into a joystick-grip ball head suitable for right or left-handed use with the control handle oriented vertically and the quick release adapter attached to the top of the configuration.

The 322RC2 has a load capacity of 17.6 lb. The 322RA Quick Release Adapter features an RC2 quick release cam lock for the 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. RC2 compatible quick release plates can be removed from the quick release adapter by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached. The cam lock also features a safety catch to prevent a quick release plate from accidentally disconnecting.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which measures 1.7 x 2.1 x 0.4" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface.

Manfrotto 322RC2 Reviews

Love this thing

I love this tripod head, I've been using it for over 10 years, this is my second one, my tripod has needed repair but the head is still solid. I've used it for weddings, corporate events and now volume school photography and this thing is still going strong. Buying a second for my second tripod. Highly recommend. It's the most comfortable and easy to use head I've owned.

So Much Easier

I'm becoming a big Manfrotto fan. A friend who is a professional graphic artist suggested I check out a pistol grip ball head for my tripod to use when shooting video. I bought this to go with a new Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 tripod and I'm impressed with the stability and functionality when using a fairly heavy camera setup like my Nikon D850 with my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 DG HSM Sport Lens attached.

Fast adjustments and stays put

I had been using a cheaper head that required 2 adjustments for up/down and right/left- now I can do it far more quickly. You can adjust the tension of the head so it moves very easy or a little more rigidly. I can easily switch from landscape to portrait and it stays where I put it. My cheaper head required support when in portrait position to keep it from drooping. I have arthritis so had some concerns about how hard I would have to squeeze it but it is not a problem at all. Very easy to use and stays where I put it.

Manfrotto has always made outstanding products in my opinion. However this grip is perfect. It takes a good amount of force to squeeze the handle but has the use the right amount of tension, where you don't need to be a body builder to squeeze it. Makes lining up your shots effortless and perfect every time.

Tough to use after few years

I have been using for over 8 years. For the first couple of years it was very good enjoyed the flexibility of quick release. After a while the ball head was difficult to operate, especially the friction adjuster to make sure the ball head doesn't drop, is tight and inoperable at the moment. The ball head is half as heavy as my 4LB tripod.

I really do love it.

I can't seem to get this head to look straight up. I do a lot of birding and need to point the camera up vertically to get a shot. Is there a way to do this?
Asked by: Christine
I think you have to turn it sideways so the slot can allow you to rotate it up.

I use my Canon 80D for videos once in a while. Will this work as a video pan?
Asked by: Bob
No, this would not be good for video. You are much better off getting a video head or you can get a hybrid head for both. Click the link below to view; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/760106-REG/Manfrotto_MH055M8_Q5_MH055M8_Q5_Photo_Movie_Tripod_Head.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

question

Manfrotto 322RC2 head no longer holds tension well. How do I tighten it up?
Asked by: Anonymous
There is a 3mm Allen screw located on the non-handgrip side that you can tighten. I was instructed to squeeze the handle when making this adjustment, and to only turn it 1/4 turn at a time to increase tension.

How do I set this head so my camera lens will point upward toward the sky?
Asked by: Christine
Mount the camera on the tripod in the normal horizontal position with the lens facing forward. Squeeze the positioning handle on the ball head and simply rotate the camera back toward you pointing the lens skyward. You may have to extend the tripod center post upward a few inches to be sure the camera body can clear the tripod legs assembly as you approach 90 degrees skyward. All types of ball heads are capable of pointing the camera lens straight up skyward.
