Manfrotto 327RC2 Overview

This Manfrotto 327RC2 Ball Head Kit from B&H includes one 327RC2 Ball Head with an RC2 quick release cam lock, a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate, and a spare 200PL Quick Release Plate.

Manfrotto 327RC2 Ball Head with 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate

This 327RC2 Ball Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 13.2 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an RC2 quick release cam lock and a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. RC2 compatible quick release plates such as the 200PL-14 can be removed from the head by pulling the cam lock's spring-loaded lever, which also allows the plate to be instantly reattached. The cam lock also features a safety catch to prevent a compatible quick release plate from accidentally disconnecting.

The 327RC2 features a ball-and-socket joint with an easy-to-grip control handle. By squeezing the control handle's integrated trigger, the ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. A thumbwheel set within the underside of the control handle can be rotated to apply tension control to the ball-and-socket joint's movements. Once the squeeze trigger is released, any adjustments to the position of the ball-and-socket joint are locked into place.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the 200PL-14 quick release plate, which measures 1.7 x 2.1 x 0.4" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface. The 327RC2 is initially configured for use with the right hand. An included hex key allows the RC2 quick release cam lock to be repositioned along with the control handle, enabling left-handed use.

Manfrotto 327RC2 Reviews

Ball head starts slipping after a few years.

Although I like the idea of this ball head and the ease of using it, the ball head starts wearing out after a few years even when used very lightly. It starts slipping and initially this can be fixed by tightening the tension but after a while this doesn't help anymore and the ball head becomes useless. Had expected more from Manfrotto.

Good ball head.

Ive had the Manfrotto 222 pistol grip ballhead for years. The height was the only factor which I did not like.  This solves that issue.  Ive used this over a dozen times since buying it a month ago and love it.

Very stable

Very stable and infinitely adjustable. I found the camera mount on several other pistol grips to be a bit wobbly but this one is rock solid. I would note that the friction was set way too high when it first arrived. Use the supplied hex wrench to loosen the nut next to the trigger to adjust to your liking (see manual for the correct nut). Now its smooth like butter.

Been frustrated by lack of reliable stability of other tripod heads - can't wait to take this one into the field.

My preferred head for my Manfrotto XPRO tripods.

I frequently shoot with two cameras simultaneously. I have both this head and the Manfrotto XPRO Magnesium Ball Head. In hind sight, wish I would have just gotten two of these. Getting my camera angle setup is so fast. I really appreciated the design that allowed to make a conversion for us left-handed folks.

Solid design

This thing is very well constructed and feels very durable. It’s not too heavy and is great for a big telephoto lens too. There is a tension adjustment on it that helps with the tightness in movement, you really kinda want that when you are locking it down. You should be aware of movement limitations on it, before shooting, I suggest you make sure your camera is oriented correctly on this mount so it moves through the range of view you care about.

So far this thing is everything it's cracked up to be; sturdy, well-built. I have the utmost confidence mounting any dslr/lens combo.

Works Great!

Works as expected, much stronger than older pistol grip designs - able to hold heavier equipment without quitting. Very happy with this purchase!

question

I have the light duty version of this and of course the equipment slowly slides down the ball when my Canon 5D Mark II plus 85 lens are attached.I just want to confirm that load capacity refers to the total weight that sits on the grip without sliding and that this product can handle up to 12 pounds of equipment without sliding. Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks.
Asked by: Lisa
Correct, the load capacity is 12lbs of camera equipment, however that refers to horizontal shooting. The load capacity for vertical shooting is about 20% less capacity.

I have been using this head for years and love it, other than the quick release. Are there adapters that I can use to replace it with an arca-swiss design? I have seen some for the 322RC2. Are they mounted the same way?
Asked by: Catherine
Unfortunately, you cannot convert this head to Arca Swiss unless you add an Arca clamp on top this existing plate but would be unstable.

Put it on my Manfrotto befree and cannot get it off. Any ideas?
Asked by: Scott
If you have already unscrewed the three screws on the bottom underside of the tripod's center column and you still cannot remove the Manfrotto 327RC2 Ball Head, it may be the head is securely tightened on the 3/8"-16 screw on the tripod's center column. If you look at the base of the tripod head, there is a notch into which a thin screwdriver or long Allen wrench (hex key) may be inserted. Insert the screwdriver or Allen wrench/hex key into the notch on the base of the tripod head, and use the extra leverage to rotate the tripod head counter-clockwise to remove the head from the tripod. If you are still having issues, you may contact Manfrotto directly either by calling them at 201.818.9500 or by e-mailing them at [email protected]

This grip will be sutable for only mafrotto tripod or I can use it on any others?
Asked by: Vladimir
The world standard attachment specification for tripod heads is either 3/8-16" or less likely 1/4-20". This head has 3/8-16" so will fit on any tripod that has that screw.

Can I clean the grease on the ball? It makes my handS oily and I cannot Touch my lenses and filters with my hands in the fields.
Asked by: Arman
In my own experience both in the field and studio I find that my hands never touch or really come close to the actual ball and grease. There also seems to be only a thin film of what is probably graphite based lubricant involved and feels quite dry when I have sampled it. Hope this helps.
