Why would someone buy these? Aren't they identical to the canisters 35mm film comes in? I throw so many away. Do people store un-cut negatives in them?
Easy. I bulk roll my own film (100') into 12, 24, or 36 exposure rolls and then store them in my fridge or freezer till needed. The canister help protect against condensation forming. If I was to store my bulk loader loaded with film in the fridge and then bring it up to room temp when needed, I'd run the risk of having condensation form inside and on the film itself which, obviously, is not good. As I can usually get 18+ rolls when I load 36 exposures, I buy a box of canisters to store the film in in the fridge and to protect the cartridges in the field and during transport.
