Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 overview

  • 1Description

Offering an incredibly wide field of view while maintaining a rectilinear design, the Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical Lens from Voigtlander is dedicated to full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, and features an updated Heliar design to limit distortion and maintain consistent sharpness and illumination to suit mirrorless camera designs. One aspherical element is employed in the 13 elements, 10 groups optical design to control spherical aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range. The lens also uses a manual focus design to permit fine-tuned control over focus placement, with a minimum focusing distance of 11.8", and a Selective Aperture Control System allows you to de-click the manual aperture ring for smooth, silent exposure adjustment to suit filmmaking applications.

Incredibly wide 10mm focal length lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 130° angle of view. It is also compatible with APS-C models where it will produce a 15mm equivalent focal length.
Rectilinear (non-fisheye) design maintains straight lines toward the periphery of the frame for a more realistic portrayal of architectural and other geometrically complex subjects.
Updated Heliar optical design helps to maintain consistent peripheral illumination, eliminate color fringing, and reduce distortion; making it ideal for use with mirrorless digital cameras.
One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and improve clarity, sharpness, and resolution.
Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 11.8".
Selective Aperture Control System produces a stepless, de-clicked aperture ring, which provides silent and smooth exposure adjustment that is well-suited for video application. The aperture ring can also be configured to utilize traditional 1/3-stop clicks for more intuitive tactile control over exposure settings.
Ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth quality of bokeh.
Built-in lens hood guards the front lens element and also helps to control lens flare and ghosting.
Contacts transfer all Exif data between the camera and lens in order to permit full use of camera functions, including focus magnification, image stabilization, and lens corrections.

    Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 reviews

    Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical Lens for Sony E is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional I've always been a fan of wide-angle focal length. The Sony FE 16-35mm is an essential lens in my kit. But the 10mm of Voigtlander is a really great addition to my kit. It offers a significantly wider perspective to the 16mm focal length. The sharpness is very high on all the frame. Superb build. Light and compact. Obviously, the edges especially will appear somewhat stretched, therefore one has to be careful to shoot at level to avoid exaggerating the effects of perspective. A lot of fun and a lot more useful than I initially thought. Highly recommended! Easily worth its asking price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a tank. Smooth, fluid dials This lens was a replacement for my 12mm M-mount (using E mount adapter) which suffered from severe vignetting, purple discoloration, and chromatic aberration as it was not designed for a digital sensor. This lens still suffers from some vignetting from about 50% in and has a slow and even falloff but it's far more natural and fixable in post. Chromatic aberration is also mostly gone. Manual focus is easy. The wide lens has a huge depth of field even at f5.6 and most e-mount cameras have both manual focus assist (digital zoom) and peaking so those should be turned on. There's no Lightroom lens preset for this yet but since the lens data is stored in EXIF it should be able to pickup the right profile automatically in a future Adobe update.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide angle interesting and good distortion control This lens can control distortion very good, any line almost straight, so it is very good for architecture photography. The ultra wide angle also very interesting, you can freely express your idea, specialize in narrow space and change looking view in another ways. I love this lens because it's small, light-weight and sharpness. The very important for me that it can be use 100mm ND & GND filters system without vignetting, that so useful for long exposure photography, You can save space in your bag, easier access and save lot of money when use 150mm ND filters Just one thing I not like is f/5.6 so dark for night photography

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well, the honeymoon is over. Now, it's true, eternal love..... This lens is a game changer, at least for me. While I am an engineer, and like to ponder specs and features as much as anyone, it is the holistic experience that has vaulted this to one of my top handful of lenses. It just sees closer to the way I do naturally than any other lens I own, and really helps me capture the impression I want from many scenes. Yes, it is a challenge to use, and I have a lot to learn, but if it were two stops faster, it would pretty much live on my walk around camera. Oh, and it's fantastic for street candids. You can stand a foot in front of, face your camera at their nose, and take a decent portrait of someone well off to their side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Widest of the WIDE not a pro...I already have the 12mm f/5.6 with adapter, This lens, STILL MANUAL, talks to the Sony A7 series and puts your settings in the EXIF so when you import to a PP'ing program you know the MM and f/setting without adding it from your notes, that is a big plus for me when shooting the Milky Way at night and using two other lenses that do not!! The extra bonus it has rectangularly perfect capture (without lens correction) with a straight horizon 10mm view long. I have done the Milky Way with a vertical windmill at 50, took some indoor shots in small main street stores (owners wanted to buy images on the spot), went spelunking and got wider images with more ceiling detail, did an antebellum home room by room got more coverage than anyone (the owner loved them). As with any wide angle objects at the sides get spread out some AND if you have lights or ceiling fans above you need to position and center on them, just keep it level and straight onto subject, set at beginning of infinity and go. I have the A7s and f/5.6 is no problem at night, doing Milky Way to get rid of coma you have shoot higher anyway, so you can get rid of that 12 and 14mm f/2.8 that needs to be set at f/4 or f/5.6 to rid coma. For sunset/rises you get what looks like a pano shot in one capture, you can stand 10 yards from a 100 ft tree and get in all in level and straight and 3 to 5 inches from a little figurine and make it look as big as a large statue. Color and sharpness is awesome at 12.2 MP. This lens would be great on the A7/r/s M2 line when taken for a walk!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy to Have It Took it out this weekend and wow it is wide. I discovered that I had to make sure the lens stabilization for my a7II was on the correct lens size. I put the lens on after using my 150-600 and set my lens size for 600mm. Hand holding the 10mm the image 'shook' when I depressed the shutter. It was fine for the image, but it was very strange. Then I noticed it was set to 600mm and changing it to 10mm eliminated the 'shake'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interesting with wide angle and distortion control - Love this lens about sharpness, small, light weight - Can use 100mm filter's system no vignetting that save your space, easier access and save lot's of money - Don't like: f/5.6 is week in night photography

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for capture of large architectural forms The lens is very solid, but compact and light. Manual focus works fine with focus peaking, and unless your subject is very close (< 2m) you can simply operate in the narrow region between 2m and infinity. Given f/5.6, most things in your photos will be very sharp. No chromatic aberration observed. Have not yet tried for night photography - something I am tempted to try with my a7s. Photos included are taken with my a7rii.
