Korg nanoKONTROL Studio Overview

The nanoKONTROL Studio from Korg is a lightweight and portable MIDI controller that features transport keys and a mixer section for portable control of a DAW or DJ software. Battery operated or USB bus powered, the controller can connect wirelessly to an iPhone or iPad, or additionally via USB to a Mac or Windows computer. The unit is compatible with any software that supports MIDI input, and includes a comprehensive selection of music software for all supported platforms.

The simple design includes eight faders, eight rotary encoders, and a collection of white LED-illuminated control buttons. These include solo, mute, record, and select buttons per channel, along with a jog wheel for scrolling through parameter assignments. Additionally the KORG KONTROL Editor software allows for freely customizing the settings of the controller, while the Studio and a Control Surface plug-in enable it for use with Apple's GarageBand and Logic Pro X.

It Took Me A While To Work Through The Iterations Of Figuring Out How To Reassign All These Controls - But ... Shew - Finally Sorted It Out. Every Knob And Slider Is Reconfigurable Through The Korg Editor. It Works! Just Played For My First Session. It Remembered The Settings And Even Opens Omnisphere And Loads Each Instrument Autonomously!

Good but expensive

There aren't too many mixers like this that have the 'scenes' feature. Essential if you are using it in MIDI programmable mode to control more than 8 tracks. But considering I had another similar device that cost $65, I think this is over-priced. However the Korg is the cheapest from a known reputable company.

Yes, but the MixPre must have the required firmware update. The Sound Devices v3.00 firmware update for the MixPre-3, -3M, -6, -6M, -10M, and -10T provides support for third-party USB control surfaces such as the Korg nanoKONTROL Studio and nanoKONTROL2, Akai MIDImix, and Novation Launch Control XL. This update enables connection of these control surfaces to the MixPre to control trim (gain), faders, pan, low cut, reverb, record, stop, and more.

Unfortunately the Zoom F8 is not able to support a MIDI controller. Currently there are no external control options.

The nanoKontrol Studio offers similar functionality to the encoders on the MC-1, however is tailored more toward DAW program control with transport control and dedicated mute, solo and record arm buttons.

The knobs on the Korg nanoKONTROL Studio Mobile MIDI Controller have a defined value of 0-127 MIDI Control Change, they do not endlessly rotate.
