Fujifilm MHG-XPRO2 overview

  • 1Description

The Fujifilm MHG-XPRO2 Metal Hand Grip for X-Pro2 provides an optimized grip for easier handling and manipulation of the Fujifilm X-Pro2 Mirrorless Digital Camera. Milled from aluminum alloy and matching the silhouette of the camera, this hand grip adds an additional 8mm of clearance from the base of the body to better support the use of large-diameter lenses when mounted to a tripod. At the base of the grip, a 38mm-wide protrusion features a dovetail design that can act as a quick release plate with Arca-Swiss-style tripod mounts.

The grip also facilitates access to the battery compartment and memory card slot, even when mounted to a tripod, for easier switching of batteries and cards during shooting. Additionally, the 1/4"-20 tripod mount has been positioned along the optical axis of the camera to benefit the creation of panning shots.

    Fujifilm MHG-XPRO2 reviews

MHG-XPRO2 Metal Hand Grip for X-Pro2 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great - but makes the XPro2 look really Ugly It works as advertised - really improves the grip and stability of the camera.. However, if you're in love with the XPro2's looks like I am, then this grip will make you very sad as it makes the camera look quite ugly.. ( it still gets a 5 Star because it's not intended to make the camera look pretty )

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improved handling of my X-Pro2 I had the Fuji Grip on my X-E2 and loved it! When I went to the X-Pro2 it is a much heavier body. Add the XF-23 lens and it weighs quite a bit. I have medium to large hands and I just wanted to feel more grip. Added this grip to my X-Pro2 and it feels great without a lot of added weight. I reads somewhere it weighs about .2 lbs. The incorporated ARCA mount is a plus. Highly recommended...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great but for the price... it should I have large hands and a solid grip is one thing I miss from my DSLR days. Had one for my X-E2 so when I upgraded to the X-Pro-2 I knew this would be my first accessory purchase. Great grip, solid feel, no wiggle, gives the camera a nice weight and balance especially when I'm using my 50-140. Only reason for 4 (instead of 5) stars is the price. Honestly it should be 30% less or it should be an item you get a discount on with the purchase of the camera. I know Fuji is trying to emulate Leica, but this is one area I wish they wouldn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Grip and Improves Overall Handling This grip has made a significant difference (for me) in the handling of the X-Pro2. Puts a little more weight to the rear and back to better balance the weight of lens, extends the grip so that it is more natural in my hand, has the swiss arca plate built in (like the previous Fuji grips) which is certainly welcome as that is what I use, and the quality of machining and fit is first class. Very pleased..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, pricey grip for the X-Pro2 I've have the RSS grips on my X-Pro1 and X100T and they feel pretty much identical to each other so I would expect that if they make one for the X-Pro2, it will feel similar. My comparisons are to those. This grip weighs 4 oz even on my postal scale. Its well made and fits the contours of the camera base perfectly. Cutout is placed perfect. The grip itself could be a bit deeper where your fingers curl to hold it on the front. RSS has this down. The rubbery material is tacky enough but I like the all metal feel of the RSS grips. All that said, I like the addition of it to my camera. It makes the camera fit my hand well. The arca-swiss grooves work with all my clamps on all the ballheads. Its only three stars because honest, the price is ridiculous. Its at best $. I wish the RSS was available but I needed a grip fast and didn't want to wait. This one will do. Barely recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit & Finish! I was at first reluctant to buy this for my X-Pro2. It's not cheap. But I decided to try it out anyway and am glad I did. I attached the MHG, looked at it, gripped it and fell in love. It is solid and fits perfectly. I felt before that the existing grip that is the unadulterated part of the X-Pro2 is well designed and sufficient but where the MHG earns its stripes is when you attach a heavier lens than the 35mm f2. It makes a HUGE difference to me to have that extra gripping capability, plus the ability to act as a quick release plate with Arca-Swiss-style tripod mounts. It does make the X-Pro2 a tad bigger but I think I may remove the MHG when I'm just walking around with a smaller lens. The X-Pro2 is a sexy beast without the MHG but it gets a boost of extra muscle from the MHG when you need it, and it still looks good too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improved Fuji Grip I have used Fuji's hand grips on all of my past/present Fuji cameras (X-E2/S, X-T1, X-Pro1, X100T). It provides three useful functions and a fourth for some users. First, it provides some additional weight to an otherwise light camera. Along with the bigger grip, this helps with the larger lenses and provides better balance. Second, for those that use the Arca-Swiss system, these hand grips work perfectly with that system. Third, this might be minor, but I like that it provides some protection for the camera. It prevents brassing, paint chips and dents. The fourth benny, which didn't apply to me, is that it lines up the tripod screw with the lens axis. A much needed improvement with this grip is that Fuji did away with the need for an Allen wrench. The screw head is now slotted like the old tripod plates and allows you to tighten the screw with a quarter. This is a bonus for me because I don't have to search for the right Allen wrench out in the field.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well thought out...mostly. Excellent construction, and the ability to access the battery with the grip in place makes it very usable. The grip really makes the XPro2 nicer to hold IMO. The only real downside that I noted was the rather disconcerting tendency for the grip to loosen itself up while in use. I didn't want to over-tighten but, perhaps, I didn't tighten it quite enough.
