Vidpro MH-300 overview

  • 1Description

The MH-300 Motorized Pan Head from Vidpro is an easy-to-use device for adding 360° panning motion to your real-time and time-lapse videos. It features a 1/4"-20 socket for tripod mounting, a 1/4"-20 camera screw, and supports loads up to 2 lb, making it suitable for smartphones, action cameras, mirrorless cameras, and compact camcorders. You can select between Continuous Rotation, 270° Side-to-Side, and Time-Lapse operating modes using the included IR remote control, which is also used to adjust rotation direction and speed.

The Continuous Rotation mode is deigned for adding panning motion to real-time video, with a maximum speed of 40 seconds for a complete 360° rotation, and a minimum speed of 250 seconds. The Time-Lapse mode offers speeds as slow as one hour and twelve minutes for a complete rotation, enabling longer-span time-lapses with cameras and smartphones that have built-in interval capture/time-lapse functionality. The Motorized Pan Head can be powered using two separately-available AAA batteries or from a 5V DC power source using the included USB cable. To get you up-and-running with the camera of your choice, a phone holder, 3-prong GoPro mount, and a mini tilt head are also included.

    Vidpro MH-300 reviews

MH-300 Motorized Pan Head with Remote Control is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great motorized pan head for phones and small cameras Compared with my handheld pans this is a vast improvement. Even with tripod and fluid head, pans often do not materialize as one would wish. This inexpensive gadget pans at three speeds, pans left or right or back and forth from left to right and back. It's easy to install and easily controlled by a remote. There is a little bit of play in the head, but under most circumstances, that is not an issue. I'm not sure how it would work in high winds whether it would wobble back and forth depending on the shape of the camera. I use a Pansonic GH4, with an Olympus 17 mm wide-angle lens. I get a highly satisfactory pan. Put the camera on manual focus, or else the autofocus will constantly try to adjust focus. Adobe Aftereffects will add an ease-in and an ease-out if needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Plus and Minuses Good price for a product with pluses and minuses. Pluses: 1. For a pretty light camera it gives a smooth turn for doing time lapse photography. If all you want is to use a GoPro, then you may be very happy with the results. I tried it with a video camera that weighs under a pound and it seemed to do a pretty good job. 2. It comes with some nice attachments. One is for a GoPro buckle, another is an add-on to it to allow more adjustment in angle, another is for a smart phone that is capable of time lapse, etc. 3. It is quiet. 4. It offers panning, time lapse, and sweep in two directions. 5. A UBS cable is included for when the batteries go out (see minuses below). But this assumes that you will be shooting near a source of AC power or a computer to plug into. Minuses: 1. It runs on two AAA batteries that run out pretty fast. You will need to take a lot of batteries out in the field to do landscape time lapse photography. 2. It comes with a remote control that is required to run it at all. This also runs on a battery, a small button type. You will likely need to bring along a spare or two. I am not pleased with the response of the remote control, which is the only way to operate this device. I sometimes press a button without response. 3. The above two are huge. I know it does not cost much and is smooth and quiet, but I got is mainly for landscape time lapse. Being out in the field and having the batteries go out after a single time lapse shot for perhaps an hour could really add up. Wish they had a rechargeable battery and charger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did Exactly What I Wanted it to do I used this with my Nikon D 5200and a 50 mm f1.8 lens to pan left and right when I focus on myself to do video presentations; it keeps me from having to walk back and forth to adjust the camera. It worked really well. It is rated for 2 lbs. and my camera and lens weighed about 1.6 lbs

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good product if just a bit quirky Product does all the actions claimed. The 'direction' setting is a bit weird in that it refers to the movement of the cylinder along the base, instead of which way the camera will turn. So clockwise is direction LEFT. The remote works fine but the layout and labels could be more professional and not as gaudy.
