Extending the effective focal length of select Sony E-mount telephoto lenses, the FE 2.0x Teleconverter increases the lens's magnification by 2x for a narrower field of view. The dedicated design maintains full communication between the lens and E-mount mirrorless cameras, including auto-exposure metering, autofocus, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization. Additionally, this teleconverter also features a dust- and moisture-resistant construction, matching the lens, to benefit working in harsh environmental conditions.

FE 2.0x Teleconverter is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! Better than Canon and Nikon Teleconverters I am a Certified Professional Photographer who pixel peeps. I have a huge array of Canon gear to compare with when evaluating the Sony gear. I was very happy with the stunning performance of the a7R2 camera and 70-200 Gmaster lens, and equally impressed with the 1.4 teleconverter which maintained full performance and essentially no CA of IQ reduction. The 2.0 TC was a long time coming, but worth the wait. It is close to the performance of the 1.4 with very little to no IQ reduction. There is a slight contrast reduction if pixel peeping, but nothing to worry about. Almost all test shots were keepers and my tests were tough. Sony's hype on the GMaster series is all true, I have all of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great with the latest Sony bodies and lenses I've been using my FE 2.0x teleconverter on both my a9 and a7RIII, in combination with my FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens. The performance is excellent in sunny light, shooting at f/11. It's very important to use the correct AF mode for the circumstances. For bird in flight, against clear sky, I use "Lock-on Wide", for birds in thicket I use "Lock-on Flexible Spot" and for in-between circumstances, I use "Lock-on Center" At f/11, in bright sun, this teleconverter blows away my Canon EF 2.0x TC-III on a 5D MkIV and an EF 500mm f/4L IS II, at f/8. In lower light, the AF of the Sony will slow down, but it'll still AF in lower light than the Canon TC. This, combined with the 100-400mm makes for an amazingly compact and light 800mm rig.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding even in comparison with 800mm prime lens Amazingly good, especially compared to 2x Canon converters I have used. I tested this on a Sony A7rMk2 with the 100-400mm Sony GM lens and a focus test chart. I compared images taken with a Canon 800mm (with Metabones adapter) on the A7r2 against images with the Sony 100-400 at 400mm and the 2x on a sturdy tripod using magnified LiveView manual focusing and cable release . Even in very detailed examination there were only the smallest differences in detail and sharpness. The 2x Sony combination is f11 and the 800 Canon is f5.6, so there is a big difference is light gathering, but when there is adequate light for that to not be an issue, the images with the 2x are outstanding and essentially as good as the 800mm Canon. Using autofocus did not produce as sharp images as careful magnified manual focus, but they were still very good and I think the flat focus target showed up any errors more than a real-life 3d subject would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect match for SEL100400GM Recently I took approximately 100 pictures of birds and small animals. I used Sony FE 2.0 Teleconverter with my SEL100400GM and Sony A7RII. It was a perfect match. I did not notice any significant auto/manual focus or sharpness issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from AF should be faster but great quality teleconverter!!! It does what it should, it is great , you just add a 140-400 to your bag with this little thing, Great quality build and really keeps the GM quality glass. The only problem is that the AF is not very fast to track objects. I really don't use it on movement subjects but it would be great have the same speed if you need it. i don't think that this work for sports photographers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Autofocus will not lock in on slow moving subjects I was hoping to use this lens with the FE 2.8 70-200 lens for birding. Especially birds in flight. This Teleconverter is well built - but the resulting 5.6 aperture is too slow for autofocus to lock in on birds in flight. WIth the range increased to 400mm manual focus is very tricky and hard to lock in pictures with good focus. Since both autofocus and manual focus don't work well I can not recommend this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal Accessory for 70-200 2.8 GM No teleconverter would match the optical clarity of an equivalent telephoto lens from the same manufacturer. A 2.0x teleconverter for a 70-200mm zoom produces a 140-400 zoom, but a 140-400 zoom lens from the same manufacturer will be optically superior. That said, this 2.0x Sony teleconverter, made exclusively for the E-mount 70-200 2.8 GM Sony lens is fantastic. Its optical elements are flawless, so when attached to the E-mount 70-200 2.8 GM, it produces a crystal-clear 140-400mm 5.6. Electronic connections means that all features of the original lens, including fast autofocus, are preserved. Yes, the minimum f-stop goes from 2.8 to 5.6, but that's because there's more glass eating up more light. And yes, the autofocus is a hair slower, but you'd never notice the difference if you're shooting action sports on a bright day. You'll only notice that you get much closer to your subject and your images look fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By far the best 2x I've used. In the past I have used a wide variety of teleconverters. I have wound up avoided 2x teleconverters because of their big negative impact on image quality. This 2x converter is an exception. Using it with my FE 70 200 on both the A7RMII and the A6500 cameras have shown surprisingly minimal reduction in image quality. Like other 2x's it does impact IQ when shot wide open. But, stopping down one stop or more yields a significant improvement. Auto focusing is, as expected, slowed down, but it is still accurate. (Conveniently, the viewfinder shows the actual reduced f stop with the converter in place i.e. when set at 2.8 on the lens it shows 5.6.) Using the actual stop autofocus seems OK till about f14 when auto focus becomes undependable with considerable searching for focus. Small stops require resorting to manual focus. To my surprise even when shooting at the equivalent of 600mm on my A6500 the image results are quite good. Now I am eagerly waiting for release of the FE 100 - 400 to see how auto focus on that lens is impacted by teleconverters. Hopefully it will also perform exceptionally with both the 1.4x and the 2x.
