The Lectrosonics L Series Camera-Mount Wireless Plug-On Microphone System with RE50B Handheld Mic Kit from B&H is designed for handheld interviews in professional broadcast production.

The kit comes with the L Series LR compact receiver and the HMa plug-on transmitter. It also includes the Electro-Voice RE50B handheld dynamic microphone, an industry standard for news correspondents around the globe.

The system operates for up to 4 hours on AA batteries. A shoemount adapter for the receiver, as well as XLR and 3.5mm output cables are all available separately.

Lectrosonics HMa Plug-On Wireless Transmitter (A1: 470 to 537 MHz)

The HMa from Lectrosonics is a UHF plug-on transmitter that accepts mic or line-level signals via a standard XLR connector. It has selectable 5, 15, & 48V phantom power and can be used when paired with a Lectrosonics receiver and handheld microphone - sold separately - in applications for ENG (Electronic News Gathering), EFP (Electronic Field Productions), interviews for broadcast TV, and more.

The input amplifier of the HMa transmitter uses an ultra-low noise op-amp for quiet operation and is gain controlled with a wide range dual envelope limiter. A 24-bit A to D converter digitizes the audio, and filters the supersonic noise above 21 kHz. The resulting signal is encoded with a proprietary algorithm to produce an analog data signal for RF transmission.

Featuring a wide tuning range of 76 MHz, with tuning steps in increments of 100 kHz or 25 kHz for up to 3072 frequencies, the HMa transmitter also covers three standard 25.6 MHz Lectrosonics frequency blocks. Each block provides 256 different pilot tone frequencies. Legacy analog wireless microphone and IFB receivers are designed to work in DSP compatibility mode, as well as some receivers from other manufacturers.

Finally, the transmitter is powered by two AA batteries, with status indicated by a multi-color LED. A USB port is also provided for firmware updates, and an IR (infrared) port is included to simplify setup with IR enabled receivers.

Digital Hybrid Wireless is a revolutionary design that combines digital audio with an analog FM radio link to provide outstanding audio quality and the exemplary RF performance of the finest analog wireless systems

The antenna is formed between the machined aluminum housing of the transmitter and the attached microphone or cable. It functions as a dipole radiator when attached to a hand-held microphone and somewhat like a ground plane antenna when connected with a cable or plugged directly into a mixer

Electro-Voice RE50B - Omnidirectional Dynamic Shockmounted ENG Microphone (Black)

Every day, for local, national and international news reports, the Electro-Voice RE50B gathers the audio for news interviews. Designed specifically as an ENG/EFP interview microphone, the RE50B's custom Dyna-Damp "mic-within-a-mic" shockmount provides extremely low handling noise for clear sound. A large, built-in Acoustifoam filter keeps wind and P-pop noise to an absolute minimum, indoors or out. Frequency response is 80 Hz to 13 kHz.

Lectrosonics L Series LR Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver (A1: 470 to 537 MHz)

The L Series LR Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver from Lectrosonics is a digital hybrid ultra-compact portable wireless bodypack receiver with 75 MHz tuning bandwidth and with tracking front-end filters. When paired with a transmitter and microphone it can be used to capture audio in environments for applications such as broadcast TV, video production, ENG field work, and more.

The LR has several other features to help provide good clear audio, such as compatibility modes to allow the receiver to operate with older analog receivers. Dual antenna diversity helps to improve range and resistance to dropouts. There is also a built-in RF spectrum analyzer and SmartTune scan, which make finding a clean frequency on-site quick and easy.

In addition, the LR receiver is enclosed in machined-aluminum housing and built with detachable antennas that allow for remote antenna mounting. LCD and membrane switch interfaces provide clear information for setup and status monitoring. This transmitter operates in the A1 frequency band between 470.100 to 537.575 MHz.

Does this wireless kit have the ability to search automatically for available transmission frequencies, like the SONY UWP-D11? From what I understand the Sony kit will automatically select a clear signal, even if for example the transmitter is on the subject, away from the receiver.
Asked by: Fivel R.
Short answer: YES! It's called Smart Tune in the setup menu. The receiver does a scan of the entire tuning range and then suggests a choice which you can accept with a button push.

Will this frequency (A1: 470.100-537.575 MHz) still be legal after FCC's spectrum auction is all done? Does this frequency require license to operate?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes! The remaining TV band will be 470-612MHZ. You can use these frequencies without a license subject to the new rules governing Un-licensed devices. If you are an un-licensed user I suggest reading the FCC document that explains what you are up a against. It's a bit too much to explain in this particular forum.

Is this receiver compatible with the Lectrosonics WM transmitter?
Asked by: Mitchell
Yes. Just select the band that covers the block that the WM is in. A1 covers blocks 470, 19, and 20. B1 covers blocks 21, 22, and 23. C1 covers blocks 24,25, and 26.

I can see the small size and the digital membranes on both rec and trans; who would be interested in this set? What is special about this set that is not offered in other Lectro gear?
Asked by: Richard W.
The new Lectrosonics L series kit is a more affordable solution for the DSLR and small video camera market. The 3 frequency bands available cover multiple blocks which allow for more flexibility in areas of use. The kit also includes all the accessories necessary to mount and connect to cameras. These would have to be purchased separately with Lectro's other series of products.
