LG 34UC88-B overview

  • 1Description

The 34UC88-B 34" 21:9 UltraWide Curved FreeSync IPS Monitor from LG features a curved, ultra-wide display that's suitable for both work and play. For work and multitasking purposes, an ultra-wide display lets you have multiple windows side by side, or one large window where you can see all the details. On the other hand, gaming on this display will feel more immersive as the curved sides wrap around your field of view, putting you right in the middle of the action.

With a 3440 x 1440 QHD resolution, the 34UC88-B provides you with crisp and clear pictures. It is constructed with an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, which has wide viewing angles and immersive colors. Combined with a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 300 cd/m² brightness rating, 10-bit color support, and a 5 ms response time, you'll be able to enjoy vivid, lag-free content reproduction with darker blacks and brighter bright colors.

Furthermore, this monitor supports FreeSync (Adaptive Sync) technology through DisplayPort, which synchronizes your graphics card with the display to output content at variable refresh rates, eliminating screen stuttering and tearing. It also has two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one of which is quick-charge compatible for your mobile devices. Connect this display to your system via DisplayPort or HDMI, then tilt and adjust its height to your viewing preference. Otherwise, you can install a different mount or stand using the VESA mounting pattern holes on the back.

Curved, UltraWide QHD IPS Display
The curved, UltraWide QHD screen allows you to multitask more efficiently than before. Have up to three windows side by side or even work on large Excel spreadsheets without having to scroll.
FreeSync
This technology allows for communication between the graphics card and monitor to synchronize frame rate output. Utilizing a dynamic refresh rate, AMD FreeSync effectively eliminates tearing, stuttering, and jerkiness for smooth gameplay.
USB 3.0 Quick Charge
One of the USB 3.0 Type-A ports supports quick charging. Once enabled, this convenient feature allows a phone or other mobile device to charge up to four times faster than through a regular USB port.

    LG 34UC88-B reviews

34UC88-B 34" 21:9 UltraWide Curved FreeSync IPS Monitor is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beautiful, useful piece of equipment. I'm a software developer, and this display is the perfect solution to the two-monitor dilemma - that you need extra space, but also want your most intensive work to be directly in front of you, where monitor bezels are in the way. It's fantastic. Rock solid. Clear text, no color shifts, no coil whine, no nothing. Just the tiniest hint of a darker band near the top of the monitor, but this is typical of this monitor model, most probably something in the design to eliminate back light bleed, of which there is practically none. I'm very happy with this monitor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Monitor with my MacBook Pro 2016 touchbar I use this monitor for work. I love it. Works with my 2016 15 Macbook Pro with touch bar. I use a USB-C to Displayport cable and it works perfectly. I used to use 2 x 2560x1440 monitors, but changed to this one. I will say, I like the single wide better than the duals. 3 documents look great side by side by side. Picture is amazing! Curve is really cool and wonderful to work with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No problems with backlight bleed or dead pixels People warned me about backlight bleed for this display, but out of the box it had no dead pixels and the slightest of backlight bleed. I was surprised by how little actually, close to none. It is beautiful and I can't see myself ever going back to a normal aspect ratio. I do wish the curve was a little more drastic but other than that its great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for all my edit and motion graphics Just got this monitor 2 weeks ago. It set up quickly and right out of the box the color match was pretty darn close. Love editing in Premiere on it and grading in Resolve. the monitor real estate is perfect for both, so much better than the 2 27" monitors I had before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Ultrawide I like this monitor a lot, but hard for me to give a real accurate assessment and here's why. I am a regular consumer who likes high-tech gadgets - phone, tv, etc - and knows a little about them, but not an expert by any means. I'm not a gamer, programmer, developer, etc. I strictly was using this monitor for productivity purposes. I use excel, outlook, lost of tabs for web browsing and research purposes, along with certain online programs I have to use for my work on a daily basis. Using 2-3 screens is vital for my work. I also use Surface Pro 4 which creates complications with the resolution and sharpness which I knew coming in. Did a ton of research before I plunked down close to $1k... Thought all along I would get the standard two monitors as I was creating my home office, but stumbled upon the Ultrawide set-up when visiting a financial services client at his office and it got my curiosity. Originally purchased the Dell U3415W but returned it because there was virtually no curve. It was a good monitor, not expensive either, but not immersive at all and felt far away from either the left or right part of the screen. So I returned it exercising my 30 day rights as a B&H customer and purchased the LG which all along is what I wanted but cheap'ed out at the last minute. The curve on the LG is great, very engaging, and the monitor doesn't seem as massive it probably could be. As I said before, I can't comment on the picture, because the Surface Pro 4 kicks out 4K resolution and this monitor is 3440X1440 which is the step below so the picture inherently isn't super sharp but good enough after some adjustment. For me, it was all about the curve and having everything on one-screen without the annoying 2-screen set-up as well as the ability to slide the screens back and forth which is awesome. All in all...I think I made a great decision ditching the 2-monitor set-up for the Ultrawide. It's really awesome and so easy to use.
