Savage Universal Background Stand
Key Features
  • Three Support Stands
  • Two Interlocking 12' Wide Crossbars
  • Reinforced Crossbars Reduce Sag
  • Middle Bracket Allows for Corner Shoots
This Savage Universal Background Stand is designed for large studios, extra-wide theatrical productions, or a big commercial shoot. Three upright stands and two interlocking 12' crossbars allow for a 24' wide background setup. Both crossbars are reinforced to reduce the possibility of sag. The included middle bracket allows for the flexibility of setting up and shooting in a corner space. The accommodation of multiple backgrounds speeds up scene changes and repetitive photography. This universal stand provides the ideal support for large muslin or cloth backdrops, and up to 107" wide paper rolls.

question

How wide are the crossbar sections? Can the stand be used with one less crossbar to make the stand 20' wide instead of 24' wide?
Asked by: Anonymous
I have used this once, and removed one horizontal piece to do just as you described/asked. 20' backdrop fit nicely with one section removed. Also see my other general comments under the question can you select any angle for the middle or are you restricted to 180 and 90 degrees .

How much sag do the crossbars end up having? Want to hang a 20' long muslin on it straight, no corner adapter.
Asked by: Robert
Thanks Reuben but not what I'm asking. Regardless of the center stand, lets say if you only used half the setup 12 feet long (no center), HOW much SAG will it have?

Are the widths adjustable? If I wanted to hang an 8x10 drop on one side and an 8x8 on the other to create a room would I be able to adjust the length to clip the 8x8 drop?

Yes. The following unit adapts to telescopic crossbars and very easy to adjust from 4 1/2 ft to 12 ft.

Will this work with a backdrop that is 24' wide? Or do you need two 12' backdrops?
Asked by: Chris
You could make this work with a 24' wide background but you would need to clamp it onto the bars with A-clamps because the middle stand will prevent a background with a pole pocket from passing onto the next bar.

I understand it comes with two 12 foot cross bars, can you make them shorter to make it shorter than 12 feet on each side?
Asked by: Kelly
Each cross bar has sections, you could leave some out to shorten the length.

question

If you do not want the corner setup and only want the full width, how do you attach the middle section without a large gap that the bracket causes? I purchased this expecting to assemble it to look like the second product photo and use two rolls of paper side by side to create a large backdrop. This, however, does not seem possible.
Asked by: Dori R.
We ordered a large cloth background and turned it lengthwise with good results for large family group pictures. We used clamps to attach it to the stand at the top and two ends.
