Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent replacement for paterson reel This product was purchased because of my dislike for the paterson equivalent reel which came with my super 4 system. The unit fits fine with system 4 pieces and offers a much improved gate to feed in the leader. I found that plastic quite rough when trying to switch it between 120 and 35 sizes and little documentation on how to actually change it. At first I thought I was going to break it by twisting it so hard but the plastic is quite good quality and strong enough to take a bit of force.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't know how I ever survived without this Honestly. Best. Reel. Ever. I question how I ever survived school and 2 years of home development without this reel before. It's the easiest thing on the planet to use!! Loads my film quickly in the dark...Has cut my loading time totally in half! The wide tabs are a genius invention. It makes me wonder why any other type would possibly be on the market -- that's how ingenious of a plan it is! I bought two of these reels for loading my 120mm Ilford film.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent design and Less expensive than the Samigon brand I'm getting ready to shoot some 120 and I'd heard that this design is much better than the standard Paterson reel. I saw that B&H also offers a reel with the same design under the Samigon brand for a lot more $$. I bought one of each and compared them. They are identical. They both have the wide feeder wings and are adjustable from 35 to 120. They even have the same mould marks! No contest, these are the ones to get if you've decided you want this improved design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I got two of these reels when I purchased the Omega tank. This review is for the reels only. I have used them for 35mm as well as 120 film. They worked well for both, though loading 35mm is a tad easier. In the past, I have had trouble loading the Hewes steel reels, especially for 120, where I ended up leaving pressure marks on the negatives. These reels have been relatively hassle free. The reels I received with the tank do not exactly match the picture here. They look more like the Paterson reels i.e without the broad ban of plastic where the film first attaches to the spool . In my experience, this has not affected usability much. Note: While it may be obvious, these reels will not fit into steel tanks sized to fit Hewes reels. They will also not fit Jobo tanks. I've tried both myself. Tip: The word is not to dip these reels into LFN / PhotoFlo. I have not done it and don't intend to try !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn't I switch years ago? Other than the minor inconvenience of finding out in the dark bag that you can attach the two halves in multiple positions...I could not be happier with this product. It's cut between a minute (if I'm really lucky with the Patterson reel) to a half hour off my loading onto reel times...just a joy to use. I'll be back for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from At Last! I'm a medium-format shooter, and getting MF film threaded onto a spool has heretofore been a miserable task--particularly if the film's old and curled. With this reel, it doesn't matter how curled the film is. You just lay it on those nice wide ears and presto. I'm going to buy several more for the darkroom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase! I've just started developing my own film, and I was having some difficulty with the standard Paterson reels, particularly getting the film started correctly. These reels have a much easier feeding system, particularly when you are attempting inside a dark bag. I'll be purchasing some more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Have these in photo one class in college, I wanted my own so I got 2. Easy to load 35mm film on in the dark. They are not used up like the ones in class and come apart easy and film loaded easier. I keep them clean and let them dry for long lasting equipment. Well worth the money.
