Kodak SP360 overview

  • 1Description

The PIXPRO SP360 4K Action Camera Dual Pro Pack provides all the essentials needed to start capturing 360° spherical video. The package includes two SP360 4K action cameras that, individually, capture 16:9 rectangular video at resolutions up to UHD 4K, or a fully circular fish-eye view. Thanks to ultra-wide 235° lenses and an included Dual Camera Base Mount, the cameras can be mounted back-to-back to capture fully spherical 360° video. Editing and stitching together your 360° video is made easy thanks to desktop software downloaded from the Kodak PIXPRO website, letting you create immersive VR video for viewing on VR goggles or 360° web players.

In addition to the two SP360 4K cameras and the Dual Camera Base Mount, the Dual Pro Pack includes an extendable selfie stick, suction cup mount, remote control with nylon wrist strap, a clip for attaching the remote control to the selfie stick, and protective lens covers.

The SP360 4K features a 12MP backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that supports a variety of resolutions and frame rates in both 16:9 and circular recording modes. For 16:9 video, you can record up to UHD 4K (3840x2160) at 30 fps, 1080p up to 60p, and 720p video up to 120 fps for hi-speed recording. For circular fish-eye content, you can record video with a diameter up to 2880 pixels at 30 fps, with a 1440-pixel diameter offering frame rates up to 60 fps, and a 720-pixel diameter offering 120 fps. The camera also takes still photos at resolutions up to 8-megapixels, with 10-frame burst shooting to help capture the perfect shot.

To take advantage of its versatile recording options in a variety of environments, the SP360 4K features a compact and rugged design that is shockproof from drops up to 6.5' (with lens cover attached), dustproof, splash-resistant, and operable in temperatures down to 14°F. A built-in 1" LCD screen allows you set up your shooting modes, with built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity letting you use your iOS or Android mobile device to remotely monitor the shots and control the camera. The supplied battery will provide around 55 minutes of continuous UHD 4K video recording.

    Kodak SP360 reviews

PIXPRO SP360 4K Action Camera Dual Pro Pack is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use, Great results for the price I purchased this model after viewing a few online reviews of several models in this price range. The camera is simple to use as is the stitching software. Achieving perfect stitching results is challenging in some cases, but overall, the app does a great job on its own. The camera is lightweight and well built. I wish that there was a waterproof housing for the dual camera configuration. My only real complaint about the design of the camera is that the battery and memory card are accessed from the bottom of the unit, the same place that it attaches to the selfie stick which means that you need to disassemble the rig in order to download the photos and videos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera/price/quality/software. I originally ordered a different camera that came defective and then I had to order this Kodak Pack. At the beginning I was skeptical about the product b/c of some reviews, but after using the camera(s) for a few events I noticed the reviews were somehow wrong or perhaps made by someone without video/photo experience. I don't know why so many complains about the software b/c it's really EASY to use (as long as you have minimum computer knowledge). The remote control works flawless and the image quality is way better than the previous model I had. Yes, I'm also using my Mac computer and Final Cut Pro to edit the videos for final production and the quality is even better after compilation, but the software that comes with this camera is also very good by itself! One thing I must point out: this camera can't take videos longer than 35minutes b/c the battery will get super hot and the camera will power off automatically. So, I had to adapt a USB portable fan to the tripod and now it can take videos for about 55 minutes. Also, make sure to order some 64GB or 128GB class 10 memory cards b/c each camera is a killer! It will generate insane amount of data when set to record in 4K. On the same token, you will need a decent HD to save all your videos and a powerful hardware spec on your PC to run the software flawless. If you are planing to use an old PC or Mac computer, think twice before purchasing. Anyways, for this price I got two cameras with very good overall quality and I'm definitely satisfied. This is a great product from Kodak. By with confidence from BHPhoto! These guys rock!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not perfect, but great results for a planetarium, I am buying my second pair. I do not use it for 360x360 but for hemispherical video. The video quality is in excess of what our 2.5 K planetarium can display. Color is rich and it is easy to operate. Downsides, not great in low light and has a limited dynamic range - bright sun and shadows do not work well together. the biggest problem is losing the files when I eject it from my Mac - yielding a format drive option. The solution is to take the memory card out of the camera in order to transfer files. The biggest problem is editing - FCP and Premiere are useless. Youtube also downgrades the video quality for streaming - see the Washington National Cathedral and Antarctica and Kepler vs. Tycho at my youtube channel. So, what is a good editor which allows for output that Youtube will accept as FCP and Premiere cannot do this?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SP360 4K is an absolute wast of time, space and money! I would give it Zero stars if possible! Compared to the Ricoh ThetaS or even the finally released Nikon KM360, this thing is a wast of time, money and space. First, lenses are so far apart. Second, difficult to sync the two. These are two separate camera bodies. Third, You have to sync and stitch those separate camera files YOURSELF in post. 'Nouf said!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Video Quality is too far from 4K You have to assemble the system using coin as a tool every time you want to make video. After that you have to disassemble in order to reach cameras USB ports (stupid design). The quality of video is not 4K, it is much much worse than 720P. The stiching process is very difficult and even Kodak shows a pretty bad quality of stiching in the demonstartion clip.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wait for the new version to come out in JAN This camera is not ready for consumers who are not techies. Very hard to use the stitching software and requires a very beefy computer to do the rendering. I will wait for the new one to come out it Jan. Hopefully they have fixed the problems.
