Seems fairly simple, but the ability to separate the Zoom recorder from its capsules opens a whole new world of recording possibilities. When you consider the price/performance of Zoom microphone capsules - for example, the SSH-6: A very capable shotgun microphone that is perfectly usable for documentary or talking heads can now be separated from the recorder and used on a proper boom- the person recording audio is free to adjust levels. The cable is expensive, but not unusual for this type of custom interface.
