Tiltall Tripod TE Original Series Tripod Reviews

A great classic!

I have owned a Tiltall tripod for over 50 years, and it's still my go-to in spite of the fact that I have bought several other tripods over the years. It just keeps working. It's particularly good with heavier format cameras or something like a speed graphic, but it's a joy to use with anything, as long as you don't need to heft it over long distances. One improvement I recently made. The center extension section had become slightly sticky which made adjustment of the final height a two handed annoyance. I took some ultra-fine steel wool and polished the tube to a mirror finish, and now it is a pleasure to adjust. The excellent design and beautiful simplicity is what makes this tripod so successful. When I bought it way back then, it cost $125 - a princely sum back then. For $2.50 a year, I guess it was a bargain.

A classic example of functionality!

When I started taking photos back in the 1970’s i wanted this superb product, but could not justify what for me at the time, was an extremely high price tag. Fast forward 40 years and I finally got one! Same design and same sturdiness for my long lenses. The carrying case is such a nice touch. Get one for someone you care about, especially yourself!

question

Does anyone know how long the gold coloring lasts for? Does it start to chip? Does it change when its outside?
Asked by: Ashley L.
The gold color, indoors or out, should last forever. However, the finish is reported to be vulnerable to scratching so be careful.

Yes. I have one on mine. If you search for Tiltall parts, you will find a telescoping center column you can use with a gimbal or monoball head.

question

Where is this made? Who makes it? How is the quality? i.e. compare and contrast to the original. It's rather expensive for something that may come from China. Unless the quality is superb.
Asked by: Arthur
This tripod is really well made. I checked on the box and yes, it is made in China. But not to worry, it doesnt have the feel of a cheap tripod. I always wanted to have a Tiltall. Now that I have one, I am very happy with it. I have four other great tripods and this one is the nicest, it is a real classic. I do not know how it compares to the original one, but it is a great tripod and worth the price tag. It is so nice that it is almost a collector item.
