Slow start but reaches the mark

This book is really hardtop push through in the early chapters. I almost gave up on it a couple times. But once the author gets to the actual topic of understanding exposure, it takes off. If you understand how f-stops, shutter speeds, and ISO works, skip the early chapters and get to the meat of the book. Definitely worth it.

Great book if you want to understand photography.

Good book, mostly very basic

I’ve been a hobbyist for several years and have been shooting in manual mode for most of that time. While this book contained some helpful hints to make certain exposure decisions quicker and easier it seems that it is more geared toward those who have never tried manual before. If that is you, this is a great book. For me, it was a little basic but definitely worth the read for the handful of tips I picked up (which is why I bought it to begin with). The reason I gave it 4 stars is because he uses lengthy analogies that I didn’t find helpful. I prefer more technical information with straight forward wording.

Awesome reference book.

Awesome reference book! I also purchased another copy for my young niece who shows some interest in photography. This book was ideal for her. It is my go to for any doubts.

Still working through this very informative book. I really appreciate the down to earth style of writing, while still imparting a lot of information and experience of the writer.

I bought this book sight unseen from a B&H showing and enjoyed it a lot. I learned several techniques that I will be using with my photography in the future.

question

What is the difference between the 3rd edition and the latest 4th?
Asked by: Anonymous
Naturally, the basics remain the same. The photography and features available in the newer cameras have been worked in. I find this a great book to read, and re-read, even though I have been doing this for fifty years. I am constantly recommending this book and have several editions in my personal library.
