This is 5 lb of anhydrous Sodium Sulfite from Photographers' Formulary. It is most commonly used as a preservative in developing agents and is also an active energizer in Amidol development. It is also used within acid fixing baths and as a blackener for negative intensification processes.

Sodium Sulfite is the major ingredient in developers and hypo clear, nice to find the 5 pounder.
Photographers' Formulary products are always reliable and top-notch. It's great that B&H carries them! I use their Sodium Sulfite along their Metol to make my film developer, D-23. I plan to start using the Sulfite as an economical print-washing aid as well. Two Tablespoons plus a pinch of Sodium Bisulfate in a half-gallon of water is the recipe is the wash aid, to help make sure my prints get an archival wash.
