With the MuxLab 1x8 4K HDMI Splitter you can split a single HDMI signal and send it out to up to eight displays. In addition to SD and HD content, UHD 4K content up to 60 fps is supported in order to drive high-resolution displays. HDCP 1.4 and 2.2 are supported for handling protected HD and UHD content. LED status indicators show which outputs are active and if there is an active input.

According to Muxlab this product has a 1 to 2 Frame Latency. It is a very low latency unit.

ideally, i have 8 monitors that will form 1 large display. can this splitter project 1 small screen display source to the 8 monitors as 1 big screen?

Sorry, no, it cannot work that way. All this would do is give you 8 separate videos at the same time. For an affordable video wall solution you could use 4 HD TV's and make one image with this controller. This product takes in a single HDMI signal and turns it in to two HDMI signals.

Can it output to 2 displays of different resolution? i.e. 4K + 1080p (downscaled)

This product will output the resolution you input in to it, up to UHD 4K. We are not aware of it being able to send out two different resolutions.
