2nd purchase of this tripod. Great for my use of creating concert video with a camcorder mounted. Smooth pan and tilt to capture wide and telephoto angles.

What is the actual height once the tripod is mounted on the dolly?

The dolly is approximately 5 high to the tripod foot. So add that to whatever height you set the tripod to. The tripods minimum height is 28 (71.1 cm) and it's maximum height is 64 (162.6 cm).

It will work just fine. I bought mine to use with a cinema rig built around a Panasonic LUMIX GH4 micro 4/3.

Yes it will fit. You will not need any adapters as they are the same size shaft. As for me personally i would keep stock head over that one

How well does this work with lighter camcorders (like 1-2 lbs)? It looks like it's geared more for big shoulder cameras.

The base of the V18 has a 3/8 stud and cannot be attached to the slider directly. You would need to use an adapter such as this one; ProMediaGear Pro Stix Hi-Hat Riser for 75mm Ball Systems B&H # PRTRHH1. However, this does raised the camera possibly too high. You may wish to consider a head such as this one which will attach directly. Magnus VPH-10 2-Way Pan/Tilt Head B&H # MAVPH10.

Any tricks for adjusting fluid tension? My first one of these is fine. But my second is too stiff, causing ride-back to every tilt.

I was fully aware of the tension knob, but it fails to affect the tension sufficiently. I've done extensive testing on this, and determined that the fluid is simply much stiffer than that in my other tripod/head of this exact same make & model purchase a year or so previous. I will be working with the manufacturer to get a warranty repair, under their standing 10-year warranty. My impression -- as a 33-yr R&D chemical engineer who works a lot on fluid rheology -- is that they just got an off-batch of the damping fluid.

Anyone know how much it’s weigh?

I measured 8.6 lb by difference on my bathroom scale (holding vs. not holding it). So it's much heavier than most photography tripods. The claimed "12 lbs" may be the full shipping weight including the carry bag, which is pretty nice, the box itself, internal packing, and a some rounding up. I bought a ballast hammock that velcros onto the three legs, in which I add a 20-lb plate weight (from weightlifting gym gear). This gives extra solidity vs. me incidentally bumping things. It's a good tripod for the price. The fluid heads are a little variable (some fluid is a bit stiff for my tastes), but a good design & build for the money.
