Pelican 014850-0050-110 overview

  • 1Description

Combining strength and lightness, the black Pelican 1485AirTP Compact Hand-Carry Case with with TrekPak Insert is watertight, crushproof, dustproof, and optimized for travel. For travel by air, Pelican has aggregated available airline rules for maximum overhead and check-in dimensions, with the goal of creating a case that conforms to their requirements. It is always recommended to contact your carrier before departing.

Your 1485AirTP case is made of a super-light proprietary HPX polymer, with honeycomb structural elements, which is up to 40% lighter than most other Pelican polymers. This confidence-inspiring design has been drop-tested on concrete on all sides and corners while loaded with gear. Not content with stopping there, the case has also been tested with a 28 lb steel dart dropped from a height of three feet.

Fully featured, the case has ABS double-throw latches that accept a user-supplied padlock, a watertight O-ring gasket, an automatic purge valve, and stainless steel hasp protectors. Users will appreciate the stylish conic curve lid shape and rubber overmolded handle. And for easier case ID, there's an attractive and removable polycarbonate card holder that may be placed on the front or side of the case.

Besides being lighter, Pelican has also improved the divider system. The system is called TrekPak and uses pre-installed wall sections, divider panels, locking pins, and an easy-to-use cutting tool. Simply lay your gear in the case, measure and cut the divider sections, and lock them in place with the steel U-pins. Extra divider material is included for occasions where your equipment requirements vary. Thick 7/16" divider sections are made of waterproof closed-cell foam laminated to a rigid, corrugated plastic panel that resists tearing and shredding. The TrekPak is combined with 1" bottom foam and lid foam to give your gear 360-degree protection.

    Pelican 014850-0050-110 reviews

1485AirTP Compact Hand-Carry Case (Black, TrekPak Insert) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Combo These new air cases are great, still heavy but It feels like a better weight to protection then the old cases, which had me looking for alternatives like HPRC. Still HPRC may win out right now when you look at the cost. What cinched it for me was the inclusion of the TrekPac dividers. These are wonderful, much more case for your buck, and if you pack it tight everything is held in place very well. I don't think I'd trust checking these at an air port (I don't trust checking anything at an airport), or handing it over to a lowly paid grip. But if you are a small team, the added function and storage capacity of using these over other options is a huge plus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great storage for my Leica M kit A recent encounter with a hurricane prompted me to look for a safe way to store my Leica bodies and lenses when they are not in use, and have them in one case that I can grab on the way out of town in an emergency. I also wanted a more secure way to carry my equipment when I travel and want to take more equipment than will fit in a shoulder bag. On extended trips, I plan carry the Pelican on the plane and pack an empty shoulder bag in my checked luggage. This case is a compact, well-built solution. It may be light weight relative the other Pelican line, but it is hefty when fully loaded. Still, I can pack 2 Leica M bodies with lenses attached, four additional lenses, and all of my accessories (see picture) in a case that will fit easily into an overhead bin. The TrekPak is easy to install, but I would have liked a little more of the material to create a few more slots. Be sure to buy a silica pak. This case is so water and air tight that it can trap moisture. Without silica, you could end up with mold/mildew.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light! It's a strong case but it's light.
