Producing a soft wraparound quality of light, the 47"-diameter Hexa-Para Softbox from Phottix is a 16-sided light modifier featuring a parabolic shape. The deep profile and rounded form produce a uniquely soft light that is ideal for use as a large fill source or key light, and both inner and outer diffusers are included for additional control over light output. This softbox is compatible with separate 16-hole Hexa-Para Speed Rings.

    Hexa-Para Softbox (47") is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful light for a less expensive para softbox Bottom line is beautiful light and nice round catchlights. The quality of light is comparable to much more expensive modifiers. The deep parabolic shape give the light some directionality while also being soft and wraparound. The softbox functions very well as a modifier. The build is decent for a large parabolic softbox under $200. It is not reasonable to compare it to far more expensive products where the money is going towards sturdier materials that are designed to take a decade of wear and tear. I do not expect the softbox to last forever but it certainly will serve me long enough to get more than my money’s worth. Assembly is tricky and Phottix has poor documentation. Once you get it assembly is easy but not quick as it is a para with 16 ribs. Poor choice when you need quick and dirty set ups on location (try a Westcott Apollo or Rapid Box), ideally you can set it up and leave it assembled in a studio/workspace. Otherwise budget 20 minutes to set up. The inner diffuser’s clips are a little hard to open and clip on, clipping 16 is a pain but much nicer shape than a square 4 rib softbox. I actually like the Velcro tabs at the end of the ribs. They hold the smaller pegs at the end of the ribs more securely. When I need to break it down it is easy to open the Velcro and pull out the ribs. I am very happy with the purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from What a pain to setup I've been using softboxes, and light modifiers for 15 years from all different brands high and low. Here is my major complaint: this softbox is a pain (and I mean a pain, perhaps a little blood too) to setup. I can deal with that if it was only needed the first time and then easier from then on. But its not. (doesn't expect directions with light modifiers as a general rule, but even Phottix own assembly video leaves out key points (like threading the rods through the inner loops (which blend into the silver and won't be noticed unless you look for them). Someone actually commented on their video about this but I didn't see it till later. The Rods don't sit in pockets but rather under open sided velco. Needless to say they fall out ALL THE TIME. I thought I'd give it them a chance and see it made setup easier and I was just used to the old ones but no. The inner baffle attaches to loops using a hook and clamp closure that is extremely rigid and hurt my fingers to even try and place on. Don't expect to easily take the inner diffusion on and off All this being said. The quality of the light is very nice. I'd ONLY recommend this box is you plan to setup it up once (don't need to the inner panel to switch between on or take it off. But if you plan to setup the box on a regular basis, it will take you 20 minutes each time just on his modifier and a lot of frustration
