Motorola T605 Overview

Stay in contact with others, even out on the water, without the need for cell service with the T605 H20 Two-Way Radio with Carrying Case from Motorola. This pair of radios features a waterproof, floating design so you can feel comfortable about taking them out in the canoe with you. Should they accidentally end up in the water, they float face up and the built-in LED flashlight activates to make finding them easy. Using FRS/GMRS channels, they have a range of up to 35 miles. The 22 channels and 121 privacy codes create 2,662 unique combinations so you will always have a clear channel. NOAA weather radio keeps you updated with real-time weather and alerts to warn of possible dangers. An emergency alert button transmits an alert siren followed by spoken or incidental sounds to warn others of your peril, and the built-in LED flashlight provides white or red light in emergencies.

There are many communication features, such as Push-to-Talk (PTT) power boost which allows you to extend the transmission range by increasing the transmitter power output. Channel scan lets you quickly find a channel. Hands-free communication is provided by iVOX/VOX, which acts like a speakerphone to keep your hands free as you hike. Twenty call tone options let others know it's you when you begin transmission. You can also choose a unique tone to transmit when you finish talking. Quiet Talk (QT) ensures uninterrupted communication with other Motorola radios that also have this feature, while VibraCall vibrates instead of emitting a tone to help you stay discreet.

Choose from the included NiMH rechargeable batteries to power the radio for up to nine hours, or use three AA batteries for up to 23 hours. A low battery alert reminds you when power is getting low, so you can recharge or swap batteries. The keypad lock prevents your personalized settings from being inadvertently changed by requiring a passcode to make alterations. Two included belt clips have a whistle built-in so they can be used as a signaling device in an emergency. A Y-cable charging adapter with dual micro-USB connectors and a car charger are included to charge the NiMH batteries. The carrying case allows for easy transportation and storage.

GREAT RADIO - BUT WITH DISAPPOINTING DESIGN FLAWS !

Great radio, but suffering from design problems uncharacteristic of Motorola. PROS: (1) Excellent clarity. (2) Great range for this level of radio. Tested to over about 1/2 mile in the city or country with some obstructions, yielding some static and problems beyond . About 3/4 mile range may be obtained in open line-of-sight, or significantly more from a high vantage point without any obstructions whatsoever. The advertised range of 35 miles is quite humorous. Anyone who knows 2-way radios already knows this. (3) Ergonomic. (4) Truly waterproof. (5) Innovative in many respects. CONS: (1) Documentation unusable. No one could learn this radio using the exceedingly poor and fragmented documentation provided ... AND ... no training videos available anywhere (as of (as of Aug 2016). In a visual world, video review and training sources are almost always consulted first, before buying such devices, and thereafter relied upon very heavily. The complete lack of such resources must have killed countless sales by now, and makes initial learning frustrating. (2) The belt clip, which incorporates a whistle, is nearly unusable. Both clip function and whistle are a failure. If the whistle mouthpiece protruded from the top of the radio it could be blown without removing the hard plastic cumbersome clip. With a little imagination, the antenna could be the whistle, and the radio could sport a more reasonable belt clip! (3) Inherent problems with charging a water-resistant radio notwithstanding, Motorola should have found a way to use a charging cradle instead of the highly cumbersome wires, jack and corded charger. (4) The button for the LED light (upper left side) constantly constantly gets bumped on! Within a short period of use in the field, the LED was inadvertently turned on several times. This is annoying as the light attracts unwanted attention and rapidly runs down the battery in not noticed. This button switch needs to be more deeply recessed, or surrounded by a guard. (5) The display should be much larger, with much larger characters and symbols. It is very difficult to read the status indicators without perfect vision. There are lots of other radios that have much large, more legible displays, or at least larger characters and symbols. (6) The radio is far bulkier than necessary. A mini version of this model would be a big hit ... providing that the other problems were solved. So many Chinese and foreign products today are designed, manufactured, and marketed, apparently without ever actually having been tested in the real world. It is truly sad that this radio is nearly perfect except for these glaring flaws. EVEN SO, THE Motorola T605 H20 IS CLEARLY WORTHY OF FOUR STARS BECAUSE, EVEN WITH ITS PROBLEMS, ITS INNOVATIONS AND OVERALL PERFORMANCE MAKE IT SUPERIOR TO MODELS OFFERED BY THE COMPETITION. And YES, I would buy these again !

So far , we love these radios. We have a large piece of property and use them to communicate when my husband and I are out working in different areas. Plan to use when out kayaking, hiking, etc. NOAA weather is a nice feature.

Can this radio be charch in 220/240 volt eleetric sistem as well as the 110 volt US sistem ?
Asked by: orkell
The wall charger for the Motorola T605 H20 Two-Way Radio is for 110 volts. You would need to use a step-down transformer to convert the voltage from 220/240 volts. You could charge the radio using the USB cables and the 220/240 volt wall charger that you would use for a smartphone.
