CyberPower 500VA Overview

The CyberPower PR500LCDRT1U Smart App Sinewave UPS (500VA / 400W) features an LCD panel, offers a sine wave output, and is active-PFC-compatible for safeguarding mission-critical servers, telecom equipment and VoIP, and inter-networking hardware that requires seamless sine wave power. It incorporates microprocessor-based digital control and includes the PowerPanel Business edition software. The UPS system is ENERGY STAR qualified with GreenPower UPS Bypass circuitry to reduce energy consumption and heat build-up.

Unit failed after 3 years and 5 months - while the warranty is only 3 years. It was not the battery that failed, but the circuit board controlling the unit; it no longer recognizes the battery despite good connection and good voltage. CyberPower said it's out of warranty and they don't sell replacement parts, and they recommend replacing with a newer unit. There's no reason something only 3 years old should be e-waste, much less something this expensive. Highly recommend looking at other units / manufacturers.

I have had no issues with this model. Another reviewer pointed out that output was 125VAC and that “we live in the USA so should be 120VAC”. To this I respond, “You know how people say 110V all the time when they mean household power that is actually 120V? Well, 110, 115, 117.5, 120, 125... All refer to the same thing. This is due to a series of bumps the power companies have done over the decades to deliver more total power over the same wires. The next bump isn't scheduled, but it will be to 125V and the device manufacturers want to be ready.” So that is a moot complaint... PERIOD. Fan noise is for the device's protection and I find where I keep it affects the fan noise. Contained space = heat = fans doing their job. Flop this on the desk with a ton of air flow (I know cause I tried) and minimal fan noise. Overall a great device and does what it is advertised to do.

does this make any noise? fan noise? I'm think about mounting this in my sound studio.

Bit late to the party, but in the hopes this may help someone: Yes, it makes noise. There is a constant hum, not just when on battery power, and noticeable vibration, kind of like touching a speaker. I would not recommend this for a quiet location.
