ikan LSW-001 overview

  • 1Description

Featuring a clean industrial design that is lightweight and promotes passive cooling, the Lightstar 300-Watt Tungsten Fresnel Light from ikan is a small yet powerful lighting instrument. It incorporates a 3.1" temperature-resistant Fresnel lens that throws a hard tungsten-balanced light, and it features a 14° to 53° spot/flood adjustment. The worm-drive focusing mechanism employed by the fixture is reliable and well established.

The aluminum housing minimizes the weight of the fixture, while helping to dissipate heat. The fixture features a flip-up top that allows access to the inside for replacing the bulb (bulb not included). A 90° baby-pin receiver allows you to mount the fixture on top of a stand, or you can alternately insert a C-stand arm or similar through the receiver. The yoke features a cord wrap post and cord for coiling the attached power cord on the yoke, and the fixture includes a 4-leaf barndoor setup that you can rotate to adjust your spill control.

Small Size
You can use this for a hair light or as a kicker to brighten up a specific part of your image. It is suitable for use as a backlight, or eyelight when you want to accentuate the eyes of your subject.
Borosilicate Fresnel Lens
The fixture incorporates a 3.1" temperature-resistant borosilicate Fresnel lens. The Fresnel lens allows the light to be more efficient and provides better control of the light than an open-face fixture.
Hard/Soft Light
The fixture's lens softens the light emitted by the bulb (bulb not included), enlarging the point-source nature of the bulb's filament. However, the light emitted by the fixture is still considered hard, just not as harsh in appearance as the light from a bare bulb. You can add diffusion to the fixture to soften the light further, use compatible soft boxes (not included), or bounce the light for a large soft source.
Removing the barndoors allows you to position the yoke above the fixture, so that you can undersling the fixture for alternate mounting possibilities. Remember to replace the barndoors after you have mounted the light.
Barndoor Safety
A spring-loaded safety minimizes the chance that the barndoors (or optional scrims) will fall out of the fixture.

    ikan LSW-001 reviews

Lightstar 300-Watt Tungsten Fresnel Light is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from LIGHT DOESN’T SHIP WITH A BULB I received the light minus the screws needed to mount the light to the yoke. I called IKAN, the manufacturer, and they shipped the missing parts. When I had the light on a light stand I turned the light switch on but no light. After calling the manufacturer back they told me that the unit doesn’t come with a bulb, very wierd since the B&H catalogue indicated the lamp was included. The B&H catalogue lists several bulb choices for under $20. But there are no directions as to taking the light apart to insert a bulb. All in all a very frustrating experience plus I won’t have it available for a planned shoot with a professional model tomorrow.
