Blackmagic Design CONVCMIC/SH/WPSU overview

  • 1Description

Connect your professional video equipment to any HDMI monitor or consumer television with the Blackmagic Design SDI to HDMI Micro Converter. This miniscule Micro Converter accepts an SD, HD, or 3G-SDI signal and converts it to an HDMI signal while retaining the original image quality and resolution. An SDI loop output sends out a re-clocked SDI signal for connecting to other down-stream equipment. The converter's small size allows it to be placed nearly anywhere, and it can be powered via any standard USB power source, including separately available USB battery packs.

    Blackmagic Design CONVCMIC/SH/WPSU reviews

Micro Converter SDI to HDMI with Power Supply is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Audio issue is a killer Like another user, we discovered that the embedded audio in these Blackmagic micro converters is completely unusable, producing intermittent very loud distortion. After inquiries, Blackmagic admits it is a known issue, and say they hope to update the firmware at some point to address it. This is after the device cost us several expensive hours of troubleshooting while assembling a system. Yes, it's a great IDEA for a product-- but it should never have been released with such a glaring defect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY. FIRMWARE PROBLEMS. AUDIO STATIC. Alright guys, these units would be amazing, except they have a terrible bug that causes loud static in the audio. Blackmagic support is aware of the issue and have made vague promises that they're working on it, but it has been many months with no fix yet. The problem is well documented on their support forum under a post titled: Micro Converter - SDI > HDMI Problem/Question I have quite a few of these little units. Every one has the problem, which renders them unusable if you need to use the audio feed off of them. Even the most recent update from Blackmagic does not fix the problem. DO NOT BUY THESE CONVERTERS until you can verify the audio distortion/static issue has been resolved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect - When working properly I've gone ahead and given this 5 stars because of the idea behind the equipment, how it operates and the overall ease of use. HOWEVER, what deserves one star is BlackMagic's failure to provide a firmware patch for a very serious audio distortion problem that should have been caught before it ever left their facility. Our organization found this problem after purchasing and installing (4) of these micro converters throughout our campus. It wasn't until after the line conversion and converter install that the problem was discovered. The only solution offered by BM was to return the equipment to B&H for a full refund and purchase a more expensive mini converter. The problem was found on 7/18/16 and today's date is 9/1/16. No ETA, no beta, and no final patch has been provided, not even the effort of providing lease equipment until the problem has been resolved. I understand testing time frames as well as the importance of releasing a patch that is 100% before release. But with all do respect, testing on this equipment should have been 100% before ever leaving their product manufacturing line. No recall or cease of selling this item, or the HDMI to SDI version has been issued, which tells me that BM really doesn't care about the potential issues that their customers will face. As soon as we are able to afford a campus wide move from BM, we will do so. Not because of their product, but because of their customer service or lack there of.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Major Audio Issues Also experiencing the audio issues that another reviewer described. After about 10 minutes, the audio distorts badly, resulting in heavy static. We do not have these issues with the Blackmagic Mini converters, only these newer and less expensive Micro converters. Had to return and replace with the Mini converters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly I wanted to be able to use an old HDMI input only field monitor with the Ursa Mini Pro. This little guy does the trick. It hooks up to the 3G output on the side and delivers a 1080p signal to the monitor. It saved me from having to update to an SDI input monitor, a much greater investment. It can be powered from my standard Anker external battery. I will have to see about rigging it, since there are no mounting points on it (or on the battery), but I think I'll be able to work something out. I have some ideas. All in all, I'm very pleased with this little gadget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect SDI to HDMI converter My SDI field monitor kicked the bucket so instead of paying $800+ I decided to buy the converter and use a few HDMI monitors I have laying around. The unit worked perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product We have now purchased 5 of these units. We use them as part of our SDI distribution system for live events. They work great. We have never had any issues with these. Connect the SDI signal in, an HDMI out to a monitor or projector, and it works every time. On occasion we have also looped out the SDI to another unit with no issues. We have used these in several different situations and I have never worried about them working like I did with our previous system. I highly recommend these units.
