Hello, quick question: will this mic connect to an iPhone (for ex.: iPhone 7) and actually record sound directly to the camera app (Filmic Pro, etc.)? I need to ask because I purchased a Rhode VideoMic Pro 2 years ago for this use and was very disappointed to learn that it WOULDN'T record directly to my phone.
The SMX-15 microphone will work with an iPhone but you will have to use 2 adapter cables. One cable is the Apple Lightning to headphone adapter that you will need for the iPhone 7. The other cable is a TRRS adapter. For that we recommend using our HX-Mi TRRS Mic & Headphone Cable for Smartphones & Tablets.

can I monitor what the mic is picking up through headphones?
Yes, headphones can be used to monitor the audio that the mic is picking up. Since the mic does not have its own built-in headphone jack, you will need to connect headphones to the headphone jack on your camera or recorder (or any other device you connect the mic to) in order to monitor the audio.

I have experienced interference from wifi with Rode VideoMic's and am wondering if anyone has experienced any type of static with the Azden?
We have not heard of any interference with Azden , But I have heard of people having issues with Rode Shotguns many times its due to Wifi for some reason .

Which mic is best for wildlife (in front of the camera). Is it the SMX-15 or a stereo version (smx-30). I both want the sound from the around the camera
I would probably look at the SMX-30. You can switch between mono and stereo so you can get that atmosphere sound as well as your subject. Or just focus on your subject. If it were me Id record a bit of both and overlay the two so you can adjust the background to be less pronounced than your focus.

Is the 1/8 in output for monitoring with headphones?
Hello. Thank you for your inquiry in regards to the SMX-15 Powered Shotgun Video Microphone. The SMX-15 does not have a headphone monitor output. The only ways to monitor audio with the SMX-15 are either if you have the microphone plugged into an audio adapter, or your camera provides a headphone monitor output jack. The 1/8 (3.5mm) output is for plugging into your cameras MIC input.
