The specs say Region A, B, C, but the manual on Sony's website does not mention that or say it plays Blu-rays from those 3 regions. How come?
Page 34 in the manual for this model states: "Your player has a region code printed on the
rear of the unit and will only play BD-ROMs/ DVD-ROMs labeled with identical region codes" -- This means that the BDP-S1700E is a multi-region model that will play Blu-ray: A, B, C, DVD: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

This player will read pretty much anything you put in it and plays on all three systems. If you experience issues, you may have to go into the settings menu and set which region discs you are playing, and which system your TV is using.
