I am a touring noise and modular synth performer and I recently switched to this mixer to run my portable live gig rig. The mixer has a heavy and durable feel and I'm sure it will last a long time. Standard IEC power connector on the back is nice. Mixer is heavy because the transformer is build in the case. NO WALL WORTS! Better than the flimsy power connector on the back of some competitor's mixers. On initial inspection with headphones you will realize that the preamps are very quiet even at max gain. The channels also have enough headroom to handle modular synth levels. Pre-fader Listen / Solo is AWESOME! 2 mono sends and 2x stereo returns are really nice for my synth reverbs. The meters are responsive and helpful to keep track of your headroom. Only cons aren't a big deal. The color scheme is too much bro-like monster energy drink dirty rave hippy for me. I much prefer the knob colors on the older VLZ. The pots feel decent but they are not anything fancy. Would like a sweepable mid for eq in a mixer in this form factor. Would like direct outs on every channel. Would like a built in audio interface or expansion card in the vlz series. That would be a much more expensive mixer.

Have three and I would buy three more

i have used Mackie mixers in my studio and on location for music gigs and three they get the job done with superb quality. Mackie has the best pre-amps for my mics. I like the fact that the 1202 VLZ4 has two aux sends and more important to me two aux returns. Some mixer do not have aux returns and using another channel is just a wasted channel to me. A good mixer that delivers great sound quality

Good Portable Mixer

I really do like this compact mixer for what it does. It's small, portable and does everything a small professional mixer should do. The only negative is that I wish the mute buttons had lights so it would be easier to see if a channel was muted or not.

A real solid mixer!

Just what the doctor ordered

I purchased this mixer for my live electronic music rig. I needed a mixer with two aux sends and a small footprint. My live electronic rig has to fit entirely on a 2 X 4 table and I was having a hard time finding something with all the channels and features I needed that would fit. This mixer is classic Mackie. Clean, lots of headroom and solidly built. Signal path and routing options are unheard of in a package this small. Its very flexible and doesnt have anything I dont need (USB interface, effects). I did a lot of research before buying this mixer and it definitely checks all the boxes.

Flexible

My 5th Mackie mixer. I keep scaling down in size from larger to smaller models. This is my second VLZ 1202. The first one started to develop very scratchy gain pots after three years of weekly use and life in a road case. Finally died after being dropped. This is the smallest model that still has enough outputs to be flexible in a live situation. Doesn’t sound as good as the Allen & Heath or Yamaha equivalents but more functionality: PFL, balance, mute, 2 aux sends, RCA in and out, XLR & 1/4” master outs, sub mix, independent return volume.

question

what are the stereo aux returns?
Asked by: Anonymous
The stereo aux returns are the master returns for aux 1 and 2. If you use aux 1 and 2 for a stereo cue mix if you dont bring up the stereo returns for aux 1 and 2. No one will hear the cue mix.
